Dismissing Irish in public spaces until "widely spoken" ignores the fields of language rights/sociolinguistics which show that public presence helps raise the status of minoritized languages. Arguing otherwise, as this clown does, just deepens marginalization - but he knows this.

Today in 1888.. Con Colbert was born in Castlemahon, County Limerick. On 8 May 1916, for his part in the 1916 Easter Rising, Con was shot by firing squad in Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin. Colbert Station, Limerick is named after him. #Limerick #OTD #executed

The much-maligned & little maintained Sarsfield House, #Limerick. The very thought of demolishing Limerick’s version of the #Barbican fills me with dread. Retrofit it for housing. There’ll be nothing to stop the green field site from being built on in 30 years time.
