Retired lawyer. Detestation of destruction of and exploitation of public services

If PAs not working to nationally agreed scope how do patients give informed consent where scopes differ from trust to trust. Will patients be advised of reasons behind what are admin decisions & the tools to evaluate. Preferably with free handout of med neg lawyers details.

NHS staff haven’t been failing, they have been failed. For 14 long years. Wes Streeting would do well to remember that, and to be more careful with his language going forward. theguardian.com/society/2024/n…

‼️ There's only one way for the public to guarantee the safety of themselves, their family and their friends. Refuse to be treated or attended by a PA or AA #AskForADoctor ‼️

Is any of this relevant anymore ? They won’t be working in GP They can’t diagnose .. PAs/AA can’t do the things listed in the AAPA order . Pause this until a through independent review has taken place as per @AoMRC @JeanetteRCR Close the PA.AA courses Stop recruitment

Not good enough @RCPhysicians & @Mumtaz_Patel_1 ! You must push for the full implementation of your EGM motions including a total pause on the PA Project. December’s roll-out cannot go ahead. Will you also please call for the immediate release of May’s @gmcuk safety survey?

Responding to the news that @wesstreeting has announced he will be saying more about physician associate roles “in the coming weeks”, Dr @Mumtaz_Patel_1 who is acting as RCP president said: ‘We’re calling for an independent national review of the role of PAs that reviews the…

How is GMC using Drs fees to fund regulation of Pas and defending itself from associated legal action not engaging in political activity outside its charitable objectives . Why aren’t Charity Commission on this. Complain. Complain. Complain.

NHS trusts (and @gmcuk) are casually passing responsibility for supervising noctors to resident doctors, but they don’t appear to realise what this is: 🚨 = altering our working conditions. 🚨 = changing our contracts. 🚨 = risking industrial action. Watch this space.

Our local hospice must find £400k extra next year re the NI rise. No warning. No exemption. No help . This for a charity helping the dying, on this day!

I feel “bullied” in that should I ask to see a properly qualified doctor or nurse, instead of an unqualified aspirational unregulated unsupervised overconfident two year possibly distance learning course ‘trained’ PA replacement that i’ll be excluded from treatment by GP/trusts.

PA & AA are occupations not professions. PA's and AA's hold occupational qualifications not professional qualifications. Terminology is important. It leads to clarity and helps prevent obfuscation.

The truth of the matter is I think a good proportion of doctors suffering ‘burn out’ are not burnt out by the hours. They’re burnt out by moral injury of working in an underfunded system where you can scarcely even get a room to clerk your patients, burnt out by being talked to…

The unwritten contract the NHS has with doctors: - you will have a debt of 100,000 and rising to be able to work for me - you will be paid less than other people to do more, and to do it more competently. We will pay you so little in fact, that your debt will increase as you…

Consultants can make their own decisions re: who they supervise. But placing rotational doctors, who have no say in the local workforce as responsible for PAs is incredibly unfair and unacceptable. Resident doctors are not there to soak up the liability of NHS trusts.

Hi @TheBMA , I wonder if there is a categorical concise statement to protect @BMAResidents? That resident doctors should NOT act as supervisors in any capacity for PAs. I trust that as a trade union, this is something that you could do? Thanks.

Unbelievable. What on earth are you playing at, @NHSEngland? How can it possibly serve patients to pretend PAs with neither medical degree nor any post-grad medical exams can teach qualified doctors? This is cut-price, reckless & arrogant. Patients deserve better, @wesstreeting

I really don’t know what to say. Is it appropriate to have a PA teaching medical students or F1/F2 doctors? beta.jobs.nhs.uk/candidate/joba…

This is now ridiculous. UK news shows have been repeatedly citing the OBR’s figures on growth but no one has pointed out to viewers the same report lays bare the Catastrophic cost of Brexit! We face poor growth & a record tax burden. If you think UK news shows need to step up RT

'Boomers find it very hard to believe that they've won.' The older generation have been handed 'the best end of the stick in British history,' according to @mrjamesob So why are they so sceptical of the upcoming Budget?

Re PA issues all NHS trusts should be asked what money they are putting aside in budgets for oncoming tide of legal liability claims. Med Neg firms just starting.

The legal actions start. As predicted . Then the insurers will wake up. And refuse insurance. And hopefully this deck of cards will finally collapse. Shame on NHSE , Hunt GMC and all concerned.
