This. Many of the issues faced by myself, my friends, and my colleagues is not because of 'science'. It's because of the systemic issues within academia: job insecurity, low wages, lack of jobs, rampant bullying, and toxic work environments.

we’re not quitting science, we’re quitting academia. I am still very much in science and will remain here forever

Great start to the weekend!!! 🥳 Our work on the ontogenetic histology of Macrospondylus bollensis 🐊 has now been published online; one of the most fun projects I've ever done and can't wait to continue with this work! anatomypubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ar…

#MineralCup24 R2 M2: #Corundum vs. #Wavellite It's time to pick your gem! Corundum is famous by its other names, ruby and sapphire. Wavellite is a more unusual gemstone, a soft translucent green mineral. Which one will advance to round 3? VOTE: mineralcup.org/2024/vote/r2m2

As scientist, you don't get paid for writing, reviewing and publishing research. Publishing scientific research can cost you £2,500 to up £10,000 per paper, it's a fee that puts a PDF on an online repository. You don't get any royalties for it.

What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders? Of all the parties involved, authors often get the smallest cut of the price of a printed book.

We are pleased to share our paper testing the accuracy of 3D models scanned through glass! palaeo-electronica.org/content/2024/5… @Val_Fisch @palaeotheoryum @Jestle @CottereauRomai1

Precious #fossils in museum collections are often protected by glass, which poses a challenge for 3D modelling methods involving photography and laser scanning. a new study shows that accurate models can still be generated through glass, especially with longer post-processing!

It has happened! Thank you so much to @CalymeneBlue for including me on this. So happy you could take the work forward and make it awesome! Thank you to @Val_Fisch and @palaeotheoryum for everything !palaeo-electronica.org/content/2024/5…

New #OA paper out ! We examined the impact of glass surfaces (such as in the marine reptile gallery at the @NHM_London) on the accuracy of 3D surface modelling. Turns out we can generate accurate models, see the paper for tests and protocols (1/2) palaeo-electronica.org/content/2024/5…
