Just listened to this like in the audiobook of The 1619 Project... and wow. Definitely something to chew on as someone working in education and a former literature major

“If I know of Ovid may I keep my children?” Whew. This line from @eveewing’s poem about Phyllis Wheatley (in the @TimesMagazine this weekend) is BRUTAL. Wheatley was a 20 year old enslaved woman who was the first Af-American woman to publish a book of poetry. #1619Project
