I was an ableist asshole when I first became a teacher. Because that’s what I was taught! In my defense, academic institutions told me a strict attendance policy was required. What changed my perspective & my assessment criteria? Disabled students 🧵

That disability accommodations essay embodies major misconceptions and aggressions about and towards disabled people. It is a side effect of the anxieties of academic ableism becoming known as a structural norm. If you are afraid of accommodations, you are afraid of difference.

I have truly enjoyed working on this story! It airs tonight at 5 on @wxyzdetroit Here's a small part of my conversation w/ Jason + Brice of @accessinsports @JasonAltmann is third generation deaf and is broadcasting the games with @nbship for ESPN & the NHL. All about inclusion.

This is the nicest thing a person I have never met in person and she’s awesome- @FeralHeather Heather is worth following, a cool disability advocate and a good person!

Okay it’s not very good but here you go 🥰

The first goal of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final on the NHL in ASL broadcast is awesome @spittinchiclets

A tremendous honor to be part of a historical moment in the Deaf community along with my colleagues Brice and Noah. Watch our @NHL in ASL broadcast tomorrow during Stanley Cup Final, Game 1 at 8 pm ET on ESPN+ and Sportsnet+.

Here is a behind the scenes look of our first day in NYC and our first rehearsal at @NHL studios in Manhattan. Tune in tomorrow for Game 1 to witness history as "NHL in ASL" will feature Deaf broadcasters in ASL of each SCF game on ESPN+ & Sportsnet+ at 8 p.m. ET
