The best science tells us that climate change is not like an asteroid hurtling towards earth, an all-or-nothing battle for survival. Rather, every billion tons of CO2 & every 10th of a degree of warming we prevent will save lives, prevent suffering, and avoid countless damage.…

The election of Donald Trump is a gutting defeat for those working to accelerate the shift to clean energy. But it isn't "game over" in the climate fight. The next battle begins today. As we all process what happens now, here's my personal reflections @heatmap_news (link 👇).

We're proud of our climate anthology Not Too Late, but we also wanted to provide more practical answers to the questions about how to get involved so many ask. So we're adding this chapter to the book that's also a free download here. Please share! nottoolateclimate.com/_files/ugd/c8e…

Please note, unlike other leading newspapers, the @PhillyInquirer is not owned by a billionaire plutocrat, but rather, a non-profit. That's why we can count on them for unvarnished commentary like this from my good friend @WillBunch:

The other big loser Tuesday was the mainstream media, which has all but imploded in public trust and as a force in American democracy. Trump won with the most disinformed electorate ever The battle to create a world for truth starts now. My new column🎁share.inquirer.com/bpjtJ3

In 2024, for the 1st year on record (w/120 yrs of data), every wealthy-country ruling party has lost ground, regardless of whether it was L or R of center. Across Belgium, France, Japan, Austria, Portugal, the US, and the UK, the average swing was 20 pts. ft.com/content/e8ac09…

Today I gave the 2024 Hugh & Ethel Kelly Lecture at @virginia_tech I spoke at length about science communication as the antidote for misinformation— if we let it. I can’t think of a better day to give this talk. Lots of energy in the room, people are looking for a way forward.

Yes, students too but they have to be adults x.com/rixiebhelle/st…

What about students. Having them at least hearing you out is a good step to keeping the ball rolling in that regard.

I am mobilizing + giving free weekly science communication workshops in a private community for scientists who want to join the battle vs misinformation. I wasn't planning on doing this so soon but this is urgent. We need you. Scientists, DM with your credentials for details.

Yesterday I had the privilege of hearing @ravenscimaven deliver a call to action for scientists like me to start engaging against misinformation on this very platform. Thank you Dr. Raven for an inspiring presentation & for taking the time to come to @virginia_tech ! We hear you

Repeat after me: LAB WEBSITES MATTER! While it may seem like a nice-to-have... in today's world, it's a need-to-have. For you, your trainees, and your prospective team members. I couldn't have written this better myself: nature.com/articles/s4225…

What I don't get about academia is the chronic lack of celebration. It is hard to get & maintain grant funding, hard to get papers accepted without Faustian bargains, hard to be a great mentor, & hard to maximize trainee success. All of it is hard. We should celebrate everything.
