If you are interested in population-level heterogeneity in susceptibility (I know there are at least 2 of you out there😆) read our new work: #PLOSPathogens: Prior exposure to pathogens augments host heterogeneity in susceptibility and has key epidemi ... dx.plos.org/10.1371/journa…

So grateful to have EEB colleagues in @VT_Biology who are awesome scientists and even more importantly, wonderful people. Super excited to have three additions this semester alone! Welcome @an_igwe, Valentina, and Roberto! @VT_Science

Interested in how ambient temperature might influence host sickness behavior and transmission potential in birds? If so check out new work from the amazing Sara Teemer in my group! Effects of cold temperature and pseudo-infection on sickness behaviour... sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

That was the most incredible Bball game I’ve ever seen - hats off to @HokiesWBB for their persistence in pulling off a win against third ranked NC state! We were not in the lead until the final 7 seconds and then lost it and regained it in the final 2 seconds! 🏀⛹🏻‍♀️⛹🏻‍♀️

A lot of “well intended” people in science serve no more than to be collaborators to the very system they publicly claim to be against and a lot of people don’t want to talk about it.

This post is unavailable.

Congrats @DayerLab for leading this new paper! It was fun to work with an amazing team including @richhallecology, Alia Dietsch, and @CornellBirds collabs Dave Bonter, Emmy Grieg, Tina Phillips, and Wes Hochachka

Congratulations to Dana Hawley (@HawleyDana) and collaborators on this fascinating research in to bird feeding and citizen science. @VT_Biology @VT_Science news.vt.edu/content/news_v…

Calling all potential post-docs! Are you interested in infectious disease ecol/evol using empirical & quant methods? Looking for a fun & supportive team? Join our multi-institution EEID project researching heterogeneity in susceptibility in house finches! workforum.memphis.edu/postings/38696

It's Time to Turn #Climate Angst into #ClimateAction! See my new op-ed with Katharine Hayhoe @KHayhoe @HoustonChron As #NCA5 shows, the impacts of climate disruption are everywhere, but so is action. Parents: let's fix this for our kids! @joinsciencemoms houstonchronicle.com/opinion/outloo…

Project FeederWatch is expanding the kinds of data participants can choose to share, including data on the mammals they see, the health of visiting birds, or how they feel as they observe—investigating how people and wildlife affect each other. Details: hubs.la/Q025tHrQ0

So proud of Marissa Langager for her persistence in getting this exciting work out- her 1st pub as 1st author! She shows that (given the choice) sick house finches prefer to associate w/ healthy flockmates, which has key consequences for tranmission: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ec…

Just had folks come to my door wanting to evangelize. I politely declined and offered a cold water to take along. We hear a lot about lgbtq ppl trying to indoctrinate everyone else. But I’ve never - not even once - had an lgbtq person come to my door to talk me into being lgbtq.
