Thanks @CH_coalblackhrt for welcoming all our new students to the city. I'll say it every year, this is my favourite time of year in the city - full of life and the dreams of so many young students out on their own for the first time. Be Kind Halifax. saltwire.pressreader.com/article/281543…

Twenty years ago today, Uncommon Grounds on South Park St. opened its doors. THANK YOU to our amazing customers and staff who have kept us around for all these years. We've loved being a part of this community and look forward to being a part of it for many years to come.

Huge shoutout to @CarletonHalifax who texted tonight to remind me that I bought tickets months ago for @IrishMythen - fantastic performance in the most intimate venue in Canada!

While we work to keep areas safe from the storm, please respect all barricades and avoid the Halifax waterfront.

Gordon Stevens Reposted

-Security & police presences have increased on the Halifax waterfront. Respect posted signage & barriers. Area is extremely dangerous. -Stay off the roads for non-essential travel. There are downed trees & powerlines. Many shoreline roads are now closed due to washouts

SAFETY: -Peggy's Cove remains closed to the public. Stay away from all shoreline areas. They still pose an extreme risk, especially during the peak tide period. -Other areas of significant concern: Eastern Shore and the Bedford, Halifax & Dartmouth waterfronts.

Update 11:35 a.m. Police are receiving reports of motorists driving to the coast to watch the waves. This action is putting themselves at risk along with First Responders in the event of rescue attempts. RCMP are advising motorists to stay off the roads.

Important reminder! Please stay away from coastal areas including the rocks, lighthouse area, viewing deck, and boardwalk at Peggy’s Cove, and Halifax and Lunenburg waterfronts until the storm surge and high winds have subsided #hurricanelee #nsstorm #mywaterfrontns

Please note our location in @HfxPublicGarden is closed due to flooding from yesterday’s rain. This is the third flood in the building since reopening only a month ago. We are awaiting a plan from @hfxgov to address this issue.

Two news outlets, reporting on identical news releases - right beside each other on Twitter. Not sure the two posts could be any more different from each other.

I was talking with a friend earlier today who said she felt so much safer walking alone when she lived in Toronto- that Halifax feels LESS safe at night. We agreed that without late night corner stores and other businesses there are no witnesses, no ppl around, hence scarier.

Disappointing big brother move by HRM. Convenience stores are one aspect of complete communities, reduce the need to drive for everything and give kids a safe place to go. Are they loud sometimes? sure, but you think they’re going to be quiet because you took away the pizza??

@HfxRegPolice are investigating an arson that occurred at the Public Gardens in Halifax last night. Anyone with information or video from the area is asked to call police. ow.ly/vvzH50KLEn7

Honestly think @scene_plus app must contain nuclear launch codes. Every second day you need to get a 6 digit authentication code, change anything requires 95 verifications, have never seen an app more unfriendly in the name of security.

Investing in downtown public space is vital to civic life, but the trend toward stuffing similar amenities into private developments isn't the same thing. We need to transform downtowns into mixed-use, mixed-income neighborhoods to navigate current trends. bloomberg.com/news/features/…
