I pay lots of tax, give drivers room, thank them for waiting, stop at red lights, careful near pedestrians. And I still get treated like shit.

Went for a ride this morning around Regent’s Park this morning. Looked after on Strava, Avg about 20mph. Really struggled to keep up with the cars. @theroyalparks

Quick reminder for the "cyclists should pay road tax" brigade. The formula for calculating relative road wear by different vehicle types uses the fourth power of axle mass. Hence if a 70kg bike and rider is charged £50, then a 2000kg car-plus-occupants would be £33.3million.

EMERGENCY LOW TRAFFIC NEIGHBOURHOODS - WHY? Here’s an excellent graphic explaining why rapid changes are essential to keep London moving. Research and graphic are great work by @Tsrognitram

Most London 🚘 journeys are short in distance and carry one person, occupying much more space even than the boxes in this clip, causing each other congestion & worse in the process. @rbkc have you done a borough survey of 🚘 traffic patterns? betterstreets4kc.org.uk/campaigns/high…

When everybody drives, no one moves. Invest in 🚶‍♂️ 🚲 🚇 infrastructure and get your city moving.

Bbbut what about the poor cars? Does that filter mean every single property in the film has been denied its rights to store cars? Did someone think of the children who need to be driven to school?

As traffic on neighbourhood streets has increased, so has the number of collisions. Sadly, over the last decade, the number of walking & cycling casualties on neighbourhood streets increased by 38% - almost double the 21% increase on main roads.

This is an obscene amount of space to give over to motor vehicles when most Londoners don’t even have access to one. Things the space could be used for instead: - Housing, urgently needed - Industry - Retail

So, we’re striking a balance between drivers’ convenience and people’s health and safety. How many lives do you feel would be an acceptable trade-off for a faster commute?

If you can, ditch the car and replace driving with walking or cycling. If you can’t replace *all* car journeys with walking or cycling, then replace those you can. If you can’t replace *any* car journeys with walking or cycling, then support the measures that enable others to.
