What an incredible day! So proud to volunteer for @METUPUKorg and be part of this amazing group. It really does feel like there’s momentum behind secondary breast cancer in Greater Manchester 🙌🏻

Starting today sharing the most spot on piece of writing. (From Gaby Hinsliff in Tuesday’s Guardian.)

This is an incredibly good question 🤔.

Do other nations, apart from the British, relax on holiday by building extremely complex civil engineering projects on the beach?

I was always confused about why former academics seemed to “vanish” after starting an alt-ac job. But after being off academic Twitter for ~3 weeks now, I get it. It’s not about shame or embarrassment for “leaving” academia. It’s about being so tired of academic culture. 1/

These threads never fail to make me smile, and never fail to make me think I’d love to work with primary aged children 🙂.

Three very excited kids heading off to Women’s Euros Day at school today! Well done @ParkRoadSale for celebrating the women’s tournament in the same way as the men’s - what a great message to send to the kids👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻.

“Break the Rules Day” at school today. One wanted to wear football kit, one wanted to wear a party dress, one wanted “to be Liam Gallagher” 🤷🏻‍♀️😂. Definitely a Manc! #primaryschool #mancuniankids

Great opportunity here to join the NC3Rs in a 12 month maternity cover role. As someone who is currently doing exactly that I can highly recommend it - it’s a brilliant way to increase your skillset post-academia, and the team are lovely! 🙂

This Monday is your last chance to join our team in this varied role supporting staff at three London institutions to put the 3Rs into practice. Visit nc3rs.org.uk/jobs to learn more and apply.

Spot the goon who was so excited to be going to in-person work for the first time since 2020 that she was taking selfies in the station at 7:37am🙈🤣. Such a great day of discussions, and I’ve never felt so professional as I did strolling round London with a Pret coffee 😆.

This is a great idea. The worst interview I’ve ever done was where I was given a test at the beginning (30 mins to complete,& then present). As well as being incredibly stressful, it had no reflection on how well I’d have been able to do the job. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Today I interviewed people for a new role. In advance, every candidate was sent the questions. I’ve never been more impressed. It made a huge difference and really enabled more thoughtful and thorough answers. It also minimised anxiety which enabled people to shine.

The worrying thing here is that the people in charge of our country genuinely think that “get a better job and if you don’t do that then you deserve to be poor” is the right position to lead from. 😠

Minister says people should work more hours or move to a better job to protect themselves from cost of living surge news.sky.com/story/minister…

So grateful that I’ve had the chance to work @NC3Rs under Vicky’s brilliant leadership. I’d never met a female CEO before joining the organisation, and now I’ve seen what one can achieve I’m totally inspired.🤍

20 years today I started work at the precursor organisation to the @NC3Rs How time flies! How the 3Rs have changed! Huge thanks to the amazing NC3Rs team and all of the fantastic individuals that I have had the privilege to work with.

“23.5% of this year's intake of Fellows and Foreign Members are women”. That isn’t very good…is it? It’s 2022. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤨

We are very happy to announce the over 60 exceptional scientists from around the world who have been elected as Fellows and Foreign Members of the Royal Society this year, selected for their outstanding contributions to science. #RSFellows royalsociety.org/news/2022/05/n…

Fascinating thread here about returning to offices vs WFH. I recognise a lot of these points!

It’s really hard to think of a more perfect demonstration of sticky human behaviour than this whole 5-day-commute → WFH thing 🧵

Today I’m thinking about all the women in the early 20th century who did something extraordinary to ensure that I have the right to vote. Vote cast for @Trafford_Labour - good luck to all involved!

This month is #metastaticmay, where @METUPUKorg aims to raise awareness of all aspects of secondary breast cancer. I might not work in breast cancer research anymore but this is something I’ll never stop caring about. Stage 4 needs more.

Welcome to the second year of #MetastaticMay. We've got loads of content coming this month. You'll be hearing first hand from people living with #SecondaryBreastCancer, professionals who work with us, & our families. I hope you will join us and join in the conversations.

Congratulations to Charlotte for passing her PhD viva yesterday (not that it was ever in doubt!). It was a pleasure working with Charlotte at the MCRC, she’s going to fly in her career in industry.

Congratulations to Dr Charlotte Criscuolo for successfully passing her PhD Viva “Prediction and Validation of Novel Drug Synergy” today 👏 👩‍🔬. Thank you to Charlotte's supervisors Bruno Simoes & Paul Townsend, and to Gareth Inman and @DrAmayaViros for serving as examiners 😊
