Tip of the ice berg when it comes to failures of carbon offset schemes.

“Total did not respect the human rights of the population in the project they brought here. They cannot hide behind the government’s failure to consult their own people” Our new investigation with @Source_Mat looks a major offsetting project in the Congo unearthed.greenpeace.org/2022/12/12/tot…

Step by step 👣 this report is a leap 🚀 towards achieving real integrity & accountability in climate action

BREAKING: at #COP27, the UN Secretary General’s high-level expert group is releasing a new standard to turn empty net-zero commitments into meaningful climate action. Stick with me for details - it’s very good news 🧵

Very powerful how-tos for communicating & inspiring climate action (e.g. voting on what counts!) to all citizens from all walks of life. @dchungyalpa wisely reminds us that we reach people through the heart and not necessarily through scientific facts. 10/10 recommend a listen!

This was such a lovely, hope-giving & laughter-filled conversation about the theatrics of climate denying politicians, centering love & compassion in environmental & climate work, & the importance of building bridges w/ faith leaders. Check it out!

Inform yourself on how we can shift power dynamics and reclaim our power in the jumbled and confusing mess that is climate action - remaining a silent observers is not the only option !👊

This week, #Stockholm50 marks 50 years of #ClimateAction. 🌳Corruption and environmental degradation go hand in hand, so here are 5 actions anti-corruption fighters can take to reclaim power in the fight against the climate crisis. transparency.org/en/blog/5-ways…

Tune in tomorrow to join me & an inspiring lineup of speakers in the webinar: Centering Justice in Global Climate Finance Governance on the Road to #COP27. I'll give my 2 cents on governance, corruption & how to enhance climate justice⚖️🌍 Register: bit.ly/38bmjjl

Quite the web of misappropriated funds at @UNOPS, let’s see what the independent investigation reveals but hopefully recommendations include independent oversight of budgets with a healthy pairing of transparent, easily accessible information.

NEW: The United Secretary-General asked a top UN official to resign Saturday, hours after the Times posted a story about her agency’s bizarre investments and $22 million in apparent losses. nytimes.com/2022/05/08/us/…

Dip in your toes to the world of climate corruption & see what you know (and don't :) ) - viel spaß!

When we talk about #ClimateFinance, we refer to the money invested to help countries to prevent and adapt to climate change. But... how much do you know about climate finance? 🤔 Do you want to test your knowledge? ⬇️ Take the quiz! ⬇️ #EarthDay

Invigorating keynote @WFD_Democracy Conference on Environmental Democracy by @Mabeytweet! Hitting the critical areas from legal asymmetry in the battle against fossil fuel lobby to underlining that poor decisions made now will lead to generations stranded #OurPlanetNeedsDemocracy

Climate fraud, greenwashing, undue influence - all jazzy terms for corruption. A very real but still mitigable threat to reaching net zero.

It’s never been so clear! And what’s crystal clear is that corruption is depleting efforts to save the planet - a fresh and topical example in a German state intertwined with Russia & Nord Stream 2 - statement from @transparency_de transparency.org/en/press/germa…

As current events make all too clear, our reliance on fossil fuels makes the global economy & our energy security vulnerable to geopolitical crises. Instead of slowing down decarbonization, now is the time to accelerate the transition to a renewable energy future.

Lets talk about solar radiation governance or rather, the alarming lack thereof... "In which scenario will the world be better or worse off—and better for whom? In which will climate justice best be served?" Great eye opening piece by @jpasztor

The world is getting warmer, and we need to start talking about how to manage overshooting beyond 1.5 degrees Celsius—including considering the risks presented by any potential use of solar radiation modification, also known as solar geoengineering. buff.ly/3fxS6v2

Question of the day 🧐

Does the new U.S. strategy on "countering corruption" apply to countries with major U.S. oil and gas investments?

A recipe to add to your holiday feast.

⚡️5 + 1 key ingredients to stop corruption ⚡️ 1⃣ Make & enforce anti-corruption laws 2⃣ Create AC agencies 3⃣ Promote transparency & access to info 4⃣ Empower citizens 5⃣ Stop cross-border corruption 6⃣ Protect anti-corruption fighters #UnitedAgainstCorruption #IACD2021

Thank you @JaneGoodallInst for these words! Illicit financial flows immensely hurt the environment & people, especially the poorest and most vulnerable. They are also the ones to suffer first from the effects of the climate crisis = punished X2. #IACD2021 @anticorruption

“Go after people at the top of the international cartels” – primatologist Jane Goodall calls for authorities to tackle money laundering linked to the illegal wildlife trade. See more from the FATF’s high-level conference on environmental crimes here ➡️youtu.be/PQqoETqsv0o

Such beautiful landscapes - its a relief colleagues at @tinepal are working to make sure they stay this way through their work with local communities & efforts to enhance transparency in every step of protecting climate funds from being lost to corruption. @anticorruption

In Nepal, Transparency International has developed programs to better protect funds earmarked for climate protection and give a voice to the people most affected by climate change. To do this, the NGO works closely with local people and governments. #ClimateChange @anticorruption
