At #COP29, Parties are discussing the future of the gender agenda in the UN Climate Change process. As we approach the end of the first week of #COP29, I want to emphasize the importance of including and promoting a gender perspective in climate action and climate financing.
Climate finance is key to unlocking climate action on the ground. Climate finance is not charity. An ambitious new climate finance goal is entirely in the self-interest of every single nation. We must agree on a new finance goal here at #COP29. #FinanceDay
With its new #NDC 3.0 today, #Brazil is out in front on delivering climate action. With UK's new 2035 target, that's 2 out of the G20 economies down - 18 to go! The message is clear: climate action is on the rise because it's every nation's ticket to security and prosperity.
UK’s new target at #COP29 – cutting emissions 81% by 2035 – sets a powerful example for other G20 nations to take note! This is the ticket to an ever stronger economy, lower costs, more jobs, investment and growth. Bold #NDC targets are vital to tackle the climate crisis.
The climate crisis is a cost-of-living crisis driving up costs for households and businesses. To world leaders at #COP29: Make it clear that you expect strong outcomes. Tell your negotiators - move directly to finding common ground. My full statement: bit.ly/3AFwVW2
On the first day of #COP29, Parties agreed on the standards for high-integrity, international carbon markets. We are a long way from halving emissions this decade, but this will help get us back in the race. More: bit.ly/4epDtG6
On the eve of #COP29, one thing is clear: Ambitious outcomes here in Baku are more vital than ever. Climate finance is the great enabler. It will allow all countries to cut emissions and build resilience. My team and I are ready. Let’s get to work.
Just a few days until #COP29 kicks off in Baku. It must deliver concrete outcomes, to help protect lives and livelihoods. Check out our latest @unfccc quarterly update to learn about key issues on the table, and the preparatory work taking place. 👉bit.ly/40FJonn
Current national climate plans (NDCs) fall miles short of what’s needed to avert the crippling effects of climate change. We need to end the era of inadequacy and spark a new age of acceleration, unlocking the vast benefits of bold climate action. More: bit.ly/4fj0I5n
#COP29 must be a stand-and-deliver moment for the world. A new climate finance goal is not optional – it’s essential. Climate finance is core business to save the global economy and billions of lives and livelihoods from rampaging climate impacts. 👉 bit.ly/3Yt5iZw
The upcoming #COP29 climate conference must be an enabling COP: Delivering concrete outcomes to start translating the climate pledges made by countries in last year's #COP28 UAE Consensus into real-world, real-economy results. It’s time to get the job done. #preCOP29
Cities, towns, states, and regions are hubs for practical climate solutions. Take Liverpool (@lpoolcouncil), an "Accelerator City," rapidly decarbonizing its live music and film sector. Local governments are key in piloting solutions adapted to local realities.
We need an ABC of NDCs: A - is for ambitious new emissions targets, economy-wide, covering all greenhouse gases, keeping 1.5 alive. B – broken down into sectors and gases. And C – credible, with regulations, laws, and the funding to ensure goals are implemented.
Bold climate action can bring vast benefits, but we risk a two-speed transition: Some parts of the world already benefit through growth, jobs & health, while others struggle with debt and capital costs. Let's ensure no one is left behind. Otherwise, ultimately, everyone loses.
For #Japan - as for every country - ambitious national climate plan are vital for strong businesses and economies. More profitability & productivity, more secure energy, more jobs & less pollution. A pleasure to meet @japan_clp business leaders and discuss their crucial role.
