Sadly the stories are those of people who did not get specialist palliative care. Just like >300 every day in the UK. Please don't confuse general end of life care with the involvement of an expert interdisciplinary team.

A really strong piece. And this is exactly why I will support the End of Life Bill in Parliament. It’s time the law was changed. #assisteddying The End of Life Bill Debate is Excluding the Voices of the Very People it is Supposed to Help' – Byline Times bylinetimes.com/2024/11/15/end…

If euthanasia becomes legal in the UK I will not lift a finger to help kill my patients I will not speak a word to help kill them This is a non-negotiable for a doctor!

The new #AssistedDying bill is full of ⭕precise holes you can drive a bus through and ♨️safeguards that are as firm as a chocolate guard in an oven

"The bill now before parliament would replace these inexact and ever-flexible guidelines with precise and firm safeguards, with a need for independent judicial determinations, and specific new offences for those using coercion and undue pressure." prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/law/6856…

When it comes to assisted suicide, Oregon is a cautionary tale, not an example for Britain to follow. My latest for @spikedonline

Millions of pounds have been donated to the campaign group that is pushing for #AssistedDying in the UK, and it is visible. Meanwhile, hospices are closing due to financial pressures. This just feels so wrong.

Take action today to back Kim Leadbeater MP’s bill on choice at the end of life and play your part to legalise assisted dying. dignityindying.org.uk/bill

I could not agree more with Disability Rights UK’s statement. @andrewpakes_ @sam_carling_ please consider very carefully the impact on disabled people and people living with long-term conditions and vote no to assisted dying.

Please share this strong statement against the #leadbeaterbill. Disabled people's organizations are resolutely opposed to legalising #assistedsuicide/#assisteddying.

Actor, comedian and disability activist, Liz Carr, makes a powerful case against the Leadbeater assisted suicide Bill📢 👉 Ask your MP to stop assisted suicide being rushed into law. It only takes 30 seconds here: righttolife.org.uk/asthreat

John Smith Reposted

Once again @thelizcarr puts it so well. Our #politicians could learn so much from her on her analysis of the 2 Bills in the UK on #PhysicianAssistedSuicide I do hope the @SP_HSCS will ask her to give evidence on their scrutiny of the so called "Assisted Dying" Bill @ScotParl

“We’re talking about coercion almost on a state level.” @thelizcarr argues that legalising assisted dying risks giving disabled, terminally ill and elderly people who ‘feel like they are a burden’ the impression that they have ‘no choice’ but to end their lives. @AndrewMarr9

You can oppose this bill because we have a broken social care system... You can oppose this bill alongside medical doctors who recognise the flaws in the bill, you can oppose this bill when you know there is no safeguards to protect people from coercion when explicit or not!

You can oppose assisted suicide & be compassionate You can oppose & be an atheist - or not You can oppose & support choice You can oppose & not be cruel You can oppose & have witnessed suffering You can oppose & have empathy You can oppose because you're concerned about this Bill

Offensive naive rubbish it is outrage that this person d I dsbt recognise what coercion actually means and permit opus way it can impact on people's decisions

what an extraordinarily bad interview. this MP's answer to how we could be assured someone wasn't being coerced is they would 'sound sincere' everything wrong with the bill summed up in 3mins kill the bill, not us

With no assurances if safeguards to prevent coercion with no recognition of the NHS and social care crisis the underfunding of hospice care.. This bill is flawed and cannot introduced in a vacuum fix social care fix NHS then a serious discussion on how we support people

🗳️ On November 29th, I’ll be voting in favour of Kim Leadbeater’s Private Members’ Bill; to legalise assisted dying for mentally competent, terminally ill adults. This sensitive issue deserves a thoughtful debate. You can read my thoughts here: buff.ly/3CpcYU3

“And with strong safeguards”. Literally no-one has been able to say what those safeguards actually are, and when pressed on it you fall to pieces.
