Crews have nearly finished dismantling the last of four dams on the Klamath River. In mid-August, I saw excavators carving away at remnants of two dams — Iron Gate and Copco No. 1. Soon workers will clear channels, reestablishing a free-flowing stretch of the river.
On the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Montana, we're funding planning and design to reconstruct streets in Browning. This work will help improve roadway and pedestrian safety.
It's worth pointing out that this river regularly ran dry until BOR diverted water from the Hudson Bay drainage and pumped it into this perennial sand pit so that we could grow alfalfa on the steppes where literally no one but nomadic horse peoples should live
