(I rarely say this, but) BREAKING: The 6 incarcerated men who sued the NY Dept of Corrections will now be allowed to watch Monday's solar eclipse. But for now, the rest of the incarcerated population is out of luck. I followed up for @HellGateNY hellgatenyc.com/incarcerated-n…

This morning I published my latest feature with @GuardianUS - an investigation into how US prisoners are dying of preventable and treatable conditions. theguardian.com/us-news/2024/a…

Instead of letting incarcerated New Yorkers who are in prisons located in the path of totality view the total eclipse, DOCCS is locking them down for 3 hours and cancelling all visits that day. hellgatenyc.com/incarcerated-n…

The latest monitor's report on Rikers Island has called for contempt proceedings to force NYC's Correction Dept + @MrLouisMolina into compliance. Uses of force remain high w/ officers using head strikes 400 times since 2022. By comparison LA County jail used head strikes 52 times

SCOTUS’ decision in Tyler v. Hennepin County will get attention for the Court’s rejection of the County’s substantive claim about the limits of the Takings Cause. But let’s not overlook that the Court also rejected the County’s extreme argument about pleading doctrine.1/5

Amazing work by these @CardozoLaw students and my clinical colleagues, working together with Lorenzo Charles to bring him home. @lindsaycnash is right tho - it should not take this kind of heroic effort to bring one man home.

Amazing work by @CardozoLaw students Ellie Williams, Anda Totoreanu, Tae Chang, Mal Helgadottir, Kate Belsito, Jessica Wang, and their fearless leader @NoronaMauricio!

Rikers officials wanted to stop delivering physical mail to people in custody. The Adams administration wanted the jail watchdog to meet less frequently. Both were thwarted at yesterday's Board of Correction hearing. But for how long? hellgatenyc.com/boc-says-no-to…

Love to see law enforcement oversight actually working every now and again.

Stunning rebuke of Adams' Administration effort to BAN detainees at Rikers Island from getting physical mail & personal packages. Correction Department said the mail was how fentanyl was getting smuggled in. The Board of Correction didn't buy it & wouldn't even vote on requests.

Want to see what life is like on ADX’s H-unit, the brutal, harsh prison where #SayfulloSaipov will likely be locked up for years? Watch these exclusive videos I obtained of a prisoner being force-fed there. Experts say this conduct may amount to torture.

Today, @thenation in collaboration with @typeinvestigate published force-feeding videos from Florence ADX that I've been fighting to obtain for many years. A thread: (1/11) thenation.com/article/societ…

Grateful for tenacious reporters like @stahlidarity for shedding light on this abhorrent practice inside the federal supermax. Props to the 3+ years of the fantastic @CardozoLaw Civil Rights Clinic students who fought hard to help her do it.

After years of litigating against the DOJ w/the help of @BetsyGinsberg and @CardozoLaw Civil Rights Clinic, I’ve obtained videos of a force-feeding in the federal supermax. Human rights experts say it may amount to torture. bit.ly/41RvzjL

Hochul equivocated on QI before the election and is now showing her true conservative (and dangerous) colors. Agree with @aar718 that "the need for states like New York to step in and fill a gap in civil rights enforcement is even greater now.” at.law.com/5EJuUj?cmp=sha…

I collaborated w/the brilliant @JeanneTheoharis to write (for @thenation) about what was missing from the coverage of the Bout-Griner transfer: the fact that Bout, too, faced brutal and arguably torturous conditions during his time behind bars on US soil thenation.com/article/societ…

Thanks to @MondaireJones @AOC @JamaalBowmanNY @PaulTonko @RepMaloney & @EspaillatNY for supporting YU’s LGBTQ+ students.

LGBTQ+ students deserve the same protections as their fellow classmates — full stop. I led my colleagues in a letter calling on Yeshiva University to recognize the YU Pride Alliance — to ensure all students, no matter how they identify or who they love, feel supported on campus.
