#MyEMERGEstory My name is Zoe & I’m a Challenge Early College #Classof2015 grad. Due to EMERGE, I went to Harvard on a full-ride, something I didn’t know was possible. Now, I work for Google and have had so many amazing experiences! Thank you @EMERGE_HISD @HISDSupe @HoustonISD!
72 hrs Harvard told me to leave campus My mom and I are homeless and I no longer have my term-time job I use to support my family I’ve led the student group asking others to help first gen low income students like myself Now I’m asking for help for me Venmo@alejandra_iglesias
my op-ed in @BostonGlobe about @Harvard’s decision to deny Dr. García-Peña tenure and the long-term damage such a decision causes this one’s incredibly personal, and would love it if you could read and share bostonglobe.com/2019/12/13/opi…
In case anyone is wondering about the cool projects, features, and products I get to work with every day 😊 blog.google/outreach-initi…
Echoing my colleagues to point out that you can’t have any criminal records to recieve DACA. The President is just straight up lying.
Many of the people in DACA, no longer very young, are far from “angels.” Some are very tough, hardened criminals. President Obama said he had no legal right to sign order, but would anyway. If Supreme Court remedies with overturn, a deal will be made with Dems for them to stay!
The👏🏽Crimson👏🏽 Is👏🏽Not👏🏽A👏🏽National👏🏽Outlet👏🏽 you are reporting on a small community which makes it extremely easy to find the people you report on. Stop acting like you’re the NYT, you’re not.
one of the most frustrating parts about being on the crimson was the way our policies tried mimicking national outlets in way that completely ignored the very real damage that an institution can inflict on the community it functions within
hey, maybe just maybe, college newspapers might have to consider student safety more than national outlets? by virtue of their proximity to the folks they report on? idk, just thinking out loud here!
‘This is a miscarriage of justice’ — Rodney Reed was convicted and sentenced to death for murder by an all-white jury despite having a solid alibi. With just weeks left until his execution date, experts and witnesses still believe he’s innocent
Join us in calling for The Crimson to: 1. Apologize for the harm they inflicted on the undocumented community. 2. Change a policy that requires calling ICE for comment. 3. Declare their commitment to protecting undocumented students on Harvard's campus. chng.it/mxRZrZBWdH
“Objective journalism” doesn’t mean tipping off a terrorist agency that has a history of actively retaliating against undocumented activists that speak out against them. “Objective journalism” doesn’t mean put students in danger of deportation.
We are disappointed that during our meeting with @thecrimson staff, we were told that in the future, they would continue to call ICE on their fellow students for stories involving Act on a Dream and ICE. This is shameful and unacceptable.
“ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday night.” Last week, The Crimson, a student run-organization, called ICE on their fellow students. This was incredibly uninformed, irresponsible, and insensitive.
Roughly 100 Harvard affiliates protested in front of Memorial Church on Thursday night, calling for the abolition of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ow.ly/9xtL50w7Q8Y
An incoming Harvard freshman, a 17 year old Palestinian boy, had his visa cancelled & was deported because US officials searched his phone/laptop & said his friends had social media posts that were critical of the US. Yup. thecrimson.com/article/2019/8…
