This year @ASUCollegeOfLaw will hire up to 7 new faculty positions, including Lisa Foundation Patent Law Clinic Director. This #ASULaw clinic is part of the @USPTO’s Law School Clinic Certification Program. Many thanks to @zackgubler for chairing faculty hiring this cycle.
Blessed to have had Phil as a professor. May his memory be for a blessing. washingtonpost.com/local/obituari…
Thrilled to have an article included in the wonderful Fall issue that the folks @dialoguejournal have put together. Hopefully my contribution doesn’t detract from the high quality thinking on display. Some wonderful fiction and art as well.
In what ways can we re-envision & re-consider the use of "apostasy" & "restoration" in contemporary discourse? Gubler theorizes what it might mean if we consider the apostasy as a "materialist apostasy" and the potential possibilities. dialoguejournal.com/articles/mormo…
Just extraordinary how much shareholder value has been destroyed at psth by the argument featured in this litigation, first by the sec scuttling the umg deal and now by this lawsuit destroying the option value of the spac.
I’ve only skimmed the complaint but this strikes me as the type of shareholder lawsuit that doesn’t benefit shareholders one iota and might even harm them to the extent that it makes it more difficult for Ackman to get a deal done.
hah this is clever. the spac shareholder argues that bc the spac is an investment company and pershing is its adviser, all compensation to pershing from the spac violates the federal rules regarding adviser compensation
Legal academic friends, UCI Law is hiring a business law/securities (or in that vicinity) scholar. Lateral or entry level. If you know someone we should be looking at, pls send me a message and spread the word!
Hoping at some point to hear the always impressive @CohoCap's take on umg since he is both a psth and spot investor and his spot investment relied at least in part on the view that the platforms will enjoy increasing leverage vis-a-vis the labels.
Random bitcoin Q: Once all the Bitcoin is mined, what is the incentive to be a miner? The transaction fee? If so, does that fee adjust upwards to offset the lack of available new coins to be mined? If so, won't the system become less attractive over time from the user pov?
Serious question: Isn't the promise of common good constitutionalism at least slightly called into question by the fact that we can't even seem to agree that wearing a mask and social distancing during a deadly pandemic redounds to the common good?
We undervalue elementary ideas and overvalue complicated ones.
Happy birthday to Tom Waits, who—despite all his best efforts to the contrary—has survived to celebrate his 71st birthday.
Working my way through the John Hughes oeuvre, and can say that “Some Kind of Wonderful” makes absolutely no sense but I still love it and Mary Stuart Masterson is delightful.
In perhaps the oddest news of 2020, the US government gets into...*checks notes*...investment banking.
President Trump said he is open to Microsoft or another U.S. company buying TikTok, but wants the government to receive a portion of the sale price on.wsj.com/3gsVW7m
This short story (although non fiction) should be studied along with Chekhov as the height of the genre.
I have a Carl Reiner story that I hold very dear to me. I figured I'd share it today, on the day of his passing, because I hope it will bring some other people some joy the way it does me.
What if breaking out of the sclerosis and stagnation that stalks us is just a question of slightly increasing the proportion of brownies in Ben and Jerry’s “Chocolate Fudge Brownie”?
Have entered the decadence phase of the pandemic where I’m reading nothing but @DouthatNYT and Houellebecq and listening to “American Tune” on a loop and binge eating Ben and Jerry’s. I’m told it’s mid-May, which is to say late Floréal. Have a great day!
A wonderful sentence: “It is bittersweet to imagine what might have become of liberal political philosophy if Rawls had come to disbelieve in a different sort of God.”
