Feel it’s time to launch the lifeboat and leave the band playing. Can’t hear the tune they’re playing but I don’t think it’s ’Nearer My God To Thee’.

Further work continuing on the demolition of Queen St Bridge in York today.

Enjoying a few days away staying in @LandmarkTrust The Semaphore Tower. London visible in the distance from the roof, a mausoleum in the woods and disused Wisley Airfield nearby where Vickers Valiants and VC-10s were tested.

I’d forgotten how much of the original Crystal Palace was still there - I love these sphinxes - walked back through the park after the subway re-opening event with @Taliesin2000

Well, not bad for a day’s train travel - from Munich to York via Paris and London - thanks to @SNCFVoyageurs @Eurostar and @LNER for on time journeys all the way. A better way to see Europe.

The former railway station at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, now a private house. The railway closed in 1966 and was critical in bringing supplies for the Isonzo Fromt during WW1.

We get very accustomed in the UK to one view of WW1 - trenches and mud. But Slovenia was the scene of fierce fighting on the Isonzo front and you can see the remains of positions around Kobarid, plus this memorial to the Italians who died in fighting against Austria-Hungary.

Off on hols, by train of course, so enjoying a bit of European railway heritage on the way.

A few photos from Saturday’s airshow at East Kirkby. Sir Barnes Wallis’ granddaughter was in the Lancaster during this taxy run.

Princes Building, Manchester, one of the city’s few Art Nouveau buildings, by I R E Birkett, 1903, taken yesterday with half an hour to spare waiting for a train at Manchester Oxford Rd. The @HistoricEngland listing calls it “an exuberant attic”.

Could not have asked for a better day to climb Cadair Idris from Llanfihangel-y-Pennant.

A #SecretsOfTheLondonUnderground we couldn’t fit on TV! The first underground trains (Metropolitan, 1863) were Broad Gauge: 7ft between the rails. So it’s fitting that a length of broad gauge rail has been preserved by @networkrail @RailwayHeritage near Elizabeth line entrances.

Visited a completed project @GWRHelp Dawlish Station. The project in the Pl 1 downside building to create a waiting rm & storeroom was delivered by @networkrailwest & the main contractor was Sisk. With the new sea defences the building will be better protected.
