In honour of #GoodFriday here is Muiredach's Cross at Monasterboice, Louth. Arguably the finest of all of Ireland's high crosses, it is believed to have been made in the early 10th century. It bears the inscription: 'a prayer for Muiredach who had this cross made'.

And the good news is... ... the pubs are open again and - eh! - 'delighted' to see you. Here's a cheerful #thatched #Irish pub in Ballyshannon, Co. #Donegal. Built circa 1850. It's what's known as a 'direct entry' type with chimney - not on line - with the door. Nice #thatch

#OTD March 19, 1824, Irish poet, William Allingham, was born in Ballyshannon. Here are images from a book I own, “By the Way” arranged by his wife, illustrator/watercolourist, Helen Allingham. Book is dedicated to Mr. & Mrs. Alfred Perceval Graves. Read notes on Austen & Brontë!

Many many thanks to the family and friends of Kieran Whelan for their amazing donation of €23,280.48 to the Trust from a GoFundMe page organised by Enda McFadden. We are pictured in Kieran’s hometown of Ballyshannon at the statue of his hero, Rory Gallagher.
