This is precisely why I argue we CANNOT divorce design methods/ processes from issues of equity. How I’m able to navigate research is very much rooted in how I’m marginalized as a woman of color AND how I exercise privilege as an American, someone with financial security, etc.
I coach my students in conducting user research interviews, and advise them to ask follow up questions. A young Black man reported back that the participants said he was aggressive and intimidating. 😡

Just consider another typical domestic genre painting from the same era. This is a wonderfully comic scene painted by Jan Steen in 1663 - but it's all action and movement, and even well-composed, the frame is flooded with detail.
UX gets characterized by method outputs - oh, you do accessibility? you do wireframes? We get brought in by non-design teams to do just that - tasks. But those teams don't know when/why to perform these tasks. The value of UX comes from practicing the whole design process.
