The future of design is always up for grabs. So what do we want to see and how might we shape it? It's a question I'll be exploring with a motivated group of designers. I'm launching a new micro-community and programme called Avant. Learn more about using the link in my bio.

I really tried to last here, but finally gave in. You can find me on Bluesky @strategychris.bsky.social & on LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/chris-jacks…

This advice will help 80% of people improve their customer interviews: Focus less on asking the questions and more on listening and responding. It's a 'discussion framework' not 'a list of questions'.

Research Findings = Analysis Research Insights = Synthesis

Any design post containing "the real world" is an instant red flag to me. Why? Generally it indicates an anti-theory or anti-academic position. Theory enables new practices to evolve and develop. Your 'real world' is a tiny slice of something bigger. Success requires praxis.

Osinga’s book is based on his PhD thesis, available for free as a PDF here: projectwhitehorse.com/pdfs/ScienceSt… My book is available for free on @Medium: medium.com/an-idea/the-ar… If you prefer other formats, see yokosopress.se

I'm somebody who often doesn't get things on the first pass. I know people who read information and it just clicks. I have to approach a subject from many different angles. Often repeatedly. Finally I piece things together. Is it just me or does this happen for you as well?

Somebody posted an amazingly marked-up copy of this book on LI. I felt fully inspired to get back into it. It's not an easy read, but it's certainly a rewarding one. Anyone who says Boyd is only about the (tactical) OODA loop and not strategy is off their rockers. 🤯

It just means 'part time'. You know what I'm talking about. Don't pretend you don't.

HELP! 😩 I need to transfer a 120GB file over the interwebs. How the hell do I do it? (No, it can be sent on a hard drive. Please don't give me answers like "Google Drive or Dropbox). Thank you! 🙏

The country that invented the railway now can't even finish laying one. Inertia kills.

I've just used it for a third team and actually punched myself on the call.

I use the word 'synergy' twice this week. I also have a palm-print on each cheeks where I slapped myself after saying it. You should have seen my client's face. No, I didn't slap them! And I'll probably forgive myself in a year or two for saying it.

Q. What do you get when you cross 'Star Wars' with 'Jason and the Argonauts'? A. Captain Enoch

Making shit happen. For people you want to support and believe in. In a space where you believe there's a need. That's leadership.

I agree with this 💯 But. It's VISUAL or DIGITAL or UX designers. What absolutely grinds my gears on this website. Whenever 'design' is mentioned on twitter it's some sort of reductionist visual design related to screens. Fashion designers aren't talking about Figma.

Designers, we have a problem. I call it Figmaism. Figmaism is an obsession with tooling at the expense of other (and often more important) skills. Here's how it slows down your UX career growth. Cont>>

Five words I live by: If in doubt. Wear Camo.

It's a great feeling to give back to a community you love. In my case it's skateboarding. I'm stoked to be hosting the NZ Premiere of Static VI in Wellington. The last in the series by Josh Stewart. If you're a skater, get yourself a FREE ticket! events.humanitix.com/static-vi-nz-p…

Design needs more urgency. Especially to deal with complex challenges like climate change. It also needs to be more confronting. Maybe is the only way we can get people to see what lies ahead if we stay on the same path? This looks great @NGVMelbourne architectureau.com/articles/the-u…
