New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) says she will start congestion pricing in Manhattan in January, with a $9 base toll instead of $15. That's 40% less, but Hochul insists it's “enough to secure the $15B" the original toll would support. I want to hear more. wsj.com/us-news/new-yo…

🚨🚨BREAKING🚨🚨: CONGESTION PRICING IS BACK AND EXPECTED TO GO INTO EFFECT ON DECEMBER 29! WE DID IT!! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CALLED YOUR LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS AND MADE YOUR VOICES HEARD; THE MTA WILL BE FUNDED AND THE CONGESTION WILL BE REDUCED 🎉

I cannot put into words how much I deeply hate this rhetoric from the governor. 4.2 million subway rides per weekday, and she just cannot wrap her mind around how travel works through Manhattan.

Kathy Hochul does this thing where she separates "working New Yorkers, hard working New Yorkers" from people who take the train. As if those people are not workers

Another way Democrats should show their ability to competently govern is to put an end to rampant license plate scams that are *everywhere* in NYC these days.

My @Newsday cover story today: despite the MTA's ramped up efforts to crack down on license plate scams, toll beaters are on the rise. newsday.com/long-island/tr…

Vickie Paladino is such an odious person. Nativism is a terrible ideology for elected officials, especially one from Queens, where about half of the population is born outside of the US. If you live here, you’re a NYer.

FWIW - I love New York and am committed to making it a livable city that everyone can afford. Don't let CM Paladino get the last word -take a moment to submit testimony that you "support lifting parking requirements" to landusetestimony@council.nyc.gov

Endlessly wild to me that San Francisco had a vacant 300-acre site less than a mile from the CBD and they only let it build out to densities approximating an up-and-coming Dallas suburb.

If you think people aren't New Yorkers because they weren't born in New York you've missed the whole point of the city and have no business representing it

New York NIMBYs are so embarrassing you don’t have the right to block housing and transit just because you hate people who don’t own cars. Sorry we’re not Dallas or Phoenix. Go be a transplant there if it’s so great.

Hi Councilwoman Vickie, I am a born-and-bred Brooklynite, not a transplant, and I’d like to “redesign our entire city” because I want it to be as diverse, affordable, and pedestrian-friendly as possible. There’s no way you’re about to gatekeep the world’s most diverse metropolis.

Transplants who just arrived in New York don't have the right to insist we redesign our entire city according to their agenda just because they hate people who own cars. Sorry we're not Barcelona or Amsterdam. Go be a transplant there if it's so great. I said what I said.

The cynical theory behind congestion pricing suspension was that it would help swing seat Dems. What happened? Swing seat Rs took credit for pressuring Hochul, no voters moved toward her/Dems. A mess on policy *and* politics.

Just brutal numbers for Gov. Kathy Hochul in the new Siena NY poll, out today. 34% favorable/54% unfavorable — a 20-point gap, worse than Trump’s 18-point gap.

Never forget that Reagan ensured no massive modern Metro system like BART or WMATA would be built ever again, and Trump will be just as destructive for transit if elected

In NYC, we're helping plan the Interborough Express project to bring better light rail to Brooklyn and Queens. Better transit means more options for riders, and with funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we're helping NYC plan for the future. brooklyneagle.com/articles/2024/…
