This one is gonna be a game changer for #astrochemistry and far beyond, if I do say so myself.

Excited to finally have this out in the wild: arxiv.org/abs/2107.14610 In this paper, we wanted to solve two problems that were largely outstanding in #astrochemistry/molecular astrophysics: what to look for next, and how much do we expect?

In 185 AD, Chinese astronomers noted a "guest star" that appeared mysteriously & stayed in the sky for 8 months. It was the first documented supernova (exploding star). Nearly 2,000 years later, we gazed at that supernova from space. Never stop looking up. #HappyNewYear!

Radio image of Jupiter made w/ #NSFfunded @almaobs The bright bands indicate high temps & dark bands low temps. This image contains over 10 hours of data, so fine details are smeared by the planet’s rotation. bit.ly/2XVELo9 📷: ALMA (ESO/NAOJ/NRAO), I. de Pater et al.

Work led by @bencowling88 sharing the HK experience using flu surveillance as parallel proxy to show likely effectiveness of interventions against COVID-19. If HKers can do it against our background of social unrest during the past 9 months, so can the world! In solidarity.

Very important new study on impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions against #COVID19 and influenza in Hong Kong by @gmleunghku team medrxiv.org/content/10.110… More evidence that #coronavirus can be mitigated by social distancing and behavioral changes short of draconian measures

Marie Skłodowska Curie was a Nobel Laureate of many firsts: the first woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize, the first person to be awarded the prize twice and still the only person to receive the prize in two different scientific fields. #IWD2020 #NobelPrize

Like an invasion of hostile space aliens, COVID-19 Is an enemy of the human species that won’t negotiate. It cares not of your nationality, ideology, politics, or religion. This enemy of us all requires a global effort to combat, guided by science and not by magical thinking.
