I just found out the person killed in the Laguna Woods shooting yesterday was my primary care physician, Dr. John Cheng. Absolute hero. He attacked the gunman and helped save so many in that church. I just wanted his name to be known. He will be missed.

If you told me 3 years ago that a pandemic would soon kill 1 million people in the US, I would have been horrified. But I would have been devastated if you told me it would happen with little national mourning and few fundamental changes to prevent it from happening again.

I’ve been asked about Fauci’s comment regarding being past the pandemic phase. While people may have thought he was saying we are post pandemic, what he was saying was actually we are past the pandemic “phase” of the pandemic. Not the best lay public communication, but correct.👇🏽

DC residents - please be aware that we are experiencing a rapid increase in local cases. Government mask mandates have been re-instituted. I highly recommend wearing an n95/equivalent 😷 in indoor public places until the situation improves.

Bottom line: wearing a mask while traveling is a small step that can go a long way to protecting ourselves and others. Given how many lives have been lost and affected by #COVID19, it’s a choice well worth making. 6/6

The recent court ruling has given travelers the option to choose whether or not to wear masks on flights, buses, and trains. Having been on a plane myself yesterday—and recognizing cases are on the rise in many states—here is why I will continue to wear a mask when I travel. 1/6

If airlines can ask us not to eat peanuts on board if there is someone with a peanut allergy, why won’t they ask us to wear a mask if there’s an unvaccinated 4 year old or cancer patient on board?

More on this soon. I’ll write about *sensible* mask mandates and how there’s both a data and morality argument here. The irony is, we are actually close to being in a situation where 1 way masking may be adequate. I’ll have more here later 👇 insidemedicine.bulletin.com/subscribe

"I was under pressure" is not an excuse for toxic behavior. Being stressed doesn't justify hostility. It's not your responsibility to absorb their pain. Being busy doesn't license incivility. No one's calendar is too full to be respectful. Most acts of kindness cost nothing.

Besides the medical challenge to take care of #LongCovid, also not a good for economy. Letting #SARSCoV2 spread without control will lead to chronic illness. There are ways to have a functioning society but still maintain some basic infection prevention measures. #Schweiz

I've been saying for weeks that as cases recede We can soon relax public health restrictions I think of this like the weather When it is bucketing rain Umbrella, rain coat, boots, are all essential When the storm turns into a drizzle, those become less critical Thread

GREAT news! This should have happened a year ago, but better late than never.

NEW: Biden to announce today distribution of 400 million free N-95s at pharmacies & community health centers. Masks begin to arrive this week & early next.

As we face the rapidly spreading omicron variant, we should remember that not all face masks are created equal. Congress must demand the mass production and distribution of N-95 masks, the most effective way to stop the spread of the Covid virus.

Agree. Fit is critical but N95 with suboptimal fit still helps says to our CDC director, “N95 masks with suboptimal fit still had comparable filtration efficiency of more than 90%.” jamanetwork.com/journals/jamai…
