Important distinctions here for UX folk. Our empathy for our users should (in theory) be capable of converting to compassion. If not, it may indicate a conflict over what we are enabling people to do. tl;dr does your work facilitate activity or outcomes you can’t support?
Sympathy: I am sorry you are in pain. (Distant) Empathy: I can imagine what this pain feels like. (Shared) Compassion: You are suffering and I will do what I can to help. (Connected and Action-oriented)
Thanks again to tonight’s wonderful speakers for letting us in on your journeys in design so far. Lots to reflect on for me both personally and as part of the community 👏🏻

Working on a problem reduces the fear of it. It’s hard to fear a problem when you are making progress on it—even if progress is imperfect and slow. Action relieves anxiety.
Great example of how data visualization can affect our interpretation!
