Spatial + resource ecology is challenging to quantify in wild animals, especially marine fish. Our new @JAppliedEcology paper combines telemetry and isotopes to generate a resource isoscape to help inform habitat + fisheries management in Florida Keys besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.111…
We have alewife in the lab at @FishOceansCAN Burlington. Took them ~ a week to get happy and eating. A big win in itself. Soon we’ll tag them with transmitters to assess survival, helping to guide future tracking of wild fish. Collab w @UWindsor @ONresources @LampreyControl
Who slams harder, Remi or Vince Carter? #forever15 #vinsanity #tangerinefanangle @TangerineHoops
Super honoured to receive this award! Thanks @graham_raby for the nom, @lucaspgriffin @ErinRitchiee for support letters. And to everyone who has helped me along the way, too numerous to name. Excited to do a keynote for this @scas_scsa in February. Topic TBD. See you there!
🎉 We are excited to announce that Dr. Jacob Brownscombe, Research Scientist at @FishOceansCAN, is the recipient of the 2025 Stevenson Lectureship Award! @sci_angler’s research investigates fish habitat use in the Great Lakes region ow.ly/qom850TXkxW 🧵…

Our new paper in Marine Biology describes multi-year Lizardfish #isoscapes for the continental US. Lots to be done with this, including #predator assignment models w/ @lucaspgriffin @sci_angler tinyurl.com/yc3wwhnp #stableisotopes #biogeochemistry #movement
Excited to use this work as a basis to explore the metabolism and bioenergetics of smallmouth bass in the wild with remote tracking! We have similar papers in review on walleye and lake trout 🥳 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jf…
Yesterday Connor Reeve @CReeveScience smashed his PhD defence. Co-mentored with @sci_angler Congrats Dr. Reeve! @Carleton_U @CarletonScience @scas_scsa
Baby Remi is home! We got discharged from the hospital today and arrived back home the exact moment of the total eclipse. Talk about a homecoming! #Eclipse2024 #HamOnt @sci_angler
🌊 Thrilled to share my first publication! Our paper unveils a novel technological approach to recover aquatic research equipment from depths using recent commercially available technologies. #Research #Technology #Innovation #Acoustictelemetry #Innovasea afspubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/fs…
Sometimes you need to collect more data to get the models right. It makes for fun imagery though. Happy Friday ya'll ✌️+♥️
Using a combination of visual surveys of fishing and acoustic telemetry we quantified depredation rate, documented environmental and behavioral factors driving depredation, and tracked the movements of both species at this recreational fishing hotspot.
What’s a silly word you often use in scientific writing? I’m quite partial to ‘somewhat’ when describing something as kinda, a bit relevant
New Paper Alert in the journal Marine Biology. Our latest research dives into tracking the highly migratory tarpon. 🌐 Regional Connectivity 🎣 Stock Structure 🌊 Migration Patterns 🐟 Ontogenetic Shifts 🔄 Repeatable Behaviors 🦆 New Management & Conservation Frameworks
Data analysis pipelines often look like a cruel boardgame. The fun part - when you get to the end, reviewer 2 tells you to go back to Project existence
