Just reposting my piece from yesterday on the constitutional questions raised by the assisted dying Bill. The more I think about it, the odder the Cabinet Secretary’s position on ministerial neutrality seems. publiclawforeveryone.com/2024/11/18/ass…

I agree with this thread, and just want to reiterate one thing about certain prominent tweeters (given further prominence through the press and broadcast media) attacking drafting.

the only reminder I'd add to this useful piece is that the UK-EU institutional architecture set up by the Withdrawal Agreement will exist whether or not there's a post-transition deal i.e. Joint Committee & all its supporting sub-committees (& need for parly scrutiny thereof...)

Lots of talk recently about the risk of a 'No Deal' after the transition period. But this version of No Deal - 'no trade deal' - is a very different kettle of fish to 'no Withdrawal Agreement.' New blog from me @OpenEurope Thread follows 👇 openeurope.org.uk/today/blog/wha…

I've no intention of reading all 981 paragraphs of Sir Alastair Norris's judgment in Sharp v Blank (thankfully it's not a #ukemplaw case), but para 4 beautifully encapsulates the difficulties facing witnesses & is worth keeping to hand when your witness doesn't come up to proof.

The right moment to share what one of my sons chose to bring me back from a 1994 primary school trip, just as I’d finished my work on what was, then, the largest Finance Bill ever. Best wishes to all former colleagues at this busy time. Better than an oncoming train.
