Steve Keen criticizes MMT on the US China trade deficit. "That's one part of MMT I've always been critical of" @ProfSteveKeen says @wbmosler is wrong about the trade deficit.
wow, very cool to see Foreign Policy discuss our book with the title "Noam Chomsky Has Been Proved Right." foreignpolicy.com/2024/11/15/cho…
FYI: The “anti big government” group is going to make the government small for the big and big for everyone else.
"Free trade is extremely destructive to economies that are relatively unsuccessful. Instead of making them more prosperous and better-off, it destroys them." -Wynne Godley
We need to bury once and for all the myth that there *actual* economies of scale in farming. Simply farming more acres does not allow you to produce more crops with fewer inputs—even when mechanization is considered.
Well, the government could certainly make it more expensive. That’s what I mean by tendentious. But actually economies of scale exist in agriculture because it is the OG economy of scale.
An idiosyncratic input price increase is a problem for companies, but one that takes place across the board can be an opportunity to raise prices, protect markups & increase profits. @tracyalloway on our new Paper and what Greedflation deniers get wrong. bloomberg.com/news/newslette…
NEW: In a letter sent to Biden before election & made public now since there’s been no WH response, more than 80 Dem members of Congress press Biden admin to sanction members of Israeli Govt. for the rise in settler violence, etc., in the West Bank in his final weeks in office.
"The solutions offered by economists were no less delusory than those of the theologians that they displaced." -Joan Robinson
This is a world problem
Sen. Chris Murphy is one of the most important voices right now on the way forward. "The things that mattered are disappearing...Place based identity evaporates as we all become 'global citizens.'"
Reasons to replace your lawn with trees: 1. zero maintenance 2. carbon sink 3. food for birds 4. home for birds 5. zero mowing emissions 6. zero mowing noise 7. zero mowing time and effort 8. reduced summer cooling costs 9. lawns are a colonial construct 10. trees are huggable!
BREAKING: horrified scientists discover plankton can't adapt to accelerating rate of global warming🧵
The economic significance of inherited wealth in society has increased. Inheritance flows in Sweden and France have doubled in size over the last two decades, today reaching almost the same levels as before the two world wars.
Given minutes on the Internet, anyone can demonstrate this. 🤑
Something I believe but can't prove is capitalism is killing us, that a larger percent of our time is monetized by corporations than our parents, to the point where little time is left for friendship, health, romance and kids, and that's why everything's falling apart.
Yes. Private parties' propaganda took decades to convince us that private profit, not public action, necessarily maintains and provides public good. So silly. So read thread 🤑
Economic stabilization used to be part of the disaster preparedness toolbox. It is time we add it back in. Just as it was recognized that some banks were too big to fail after the global financial crisis, we have to recognize that some sectors are “too essential to fail.”
MMT and inflation A 2018 neglected MMT paper that I like very much demonstrates how MMT cares about inflation. The study is based on a simulation of a job guarantee program in the US, utilising the macroeconomic FAIR model of Ray C. Fair (2018 version.) 1/5
If you can't make a good a life for the people in this country with all the wealth and resources we already have, something has clearly gone seriously wrong. Ask yourself what.
Yes, why should we learn from history’s mistakes when there’s profit to be made repeating them?
the country didn’t “move far right”, trump got less votes than he did in 2020. democrats just completely fumbled their coalition and alienated entire bases of voters
Sorry, from now on I only sign up for federated services where I can't be locked in. Until that comes to Bluesky, I'll be on Mastodon: pluralistic.net/2024/11/02/uly…
