Only in the second year of my PhD but I want to drop out like once a week. Will this fade? Get worse?

I heard that Uncertainty quantification in high-dimensional overparametrized neural nets is hard, partly because Bayesian training is tricky and resists theoretical analysis. Then I realized we can analyze it in quite a detail: arxiv.org/abs/2210.12760 to appear in #aistats23 .

A lot of mathematics researchers I have come across have this habit of exploring an area JUST for academic publishing even if they know THERE are super exponentially novel methods that could solve the problem. Why would you develop an expensive PDE solver when you can use DNN?

Mary went to prison for four years for stealing a car. Despite being a trans woman she was put in an all male prison where she was 'raped 2,000 times'. She says it was hell on earth, it was as if I died and this was my punishment. independent.co.uk/news/world/aus…

I use @zotero and classify the papers into subfolders according to why I need them. Zotero is useful because I can read PDFs, make notes/annotations as required, and most importantly, export these references as a .bib file that I can directly import in TeX when I start writing.

Hi friends, I've started a crowdsourced Google Doc for open positions and helpful volunteer contacts to help laid-off Googlers find jobs. Please add any openings you know of, and list your contact information if you're willing to help! docs.google.com/document/d/1g5…

I'm going to make and pin a thread of research ideas, since I use Twitter enough that I'm likely to keep Tweeting my ideas, so I hope it will help me & potential students find them. They'll be raw ideas, and over time I'll do some. If you're interested in any of them, email me

TENURED! Three days since I got the official letter and I'm still in disbelief. I was never the strongest student and never expected to even get into grad school. This win is for all of you who took a chance on me & mí familia ❤️ & all lab members. Thank you, gracias #SiSePuede

When did you all feel grown up? -- For me, when I realised that I can no longer ask my brother to help me in a project. Context: He is doing a PhD in theoretical physics while I am killing flies for my master's thesis. Also, he calls me a noob 🥲.

Sometimes I think it would be an interesting experiment to raise a child and teach them quantum mechanics before Newtonian mechanics, just to see what would happen to their little brain. Might not be a good enough reason to have kids but idk could be fun

Consider a vertical and a horizontal parabolas sharing the same vertex. The tangents at their intersection will meet the contact points of their common tangent!
