No. The policy that you support starts with the false assumption that children are chattel - possessions of their parents with no rights of their own. Religion needs 'father knows best' to survive. State institutions strive to protect individuals from ALL FORMS of indoctrination.

This policy you support starts with the false assumption that all parents are abusers.

We need to meet them where they are, and help them see a way forward. Even if that doesn’t include school. Our young people are listening, and they believe us. Let’s tell them something worth hearing. School isn't the only way to get an education. 7/

After learning more about learning disabilities from a psychologist today, I Googled "neurodiversity". If you are a teacher, please read this article. It reminds me that we need #creative + #inclusive education, which starts with our view of learning: bbc.com/future/article…

Create change and lead, Accept change and thrive, Reject change and perish.

Learning is infectious. Kids are more likely to catch the learning virus from each other than they will from teachers. Teachers, when it comes to learning, give kids a chance to infect each other. Make learning go viral!

Not sure I've ever read a better short take on the fatal flaw of accountability-based school reform - "the most efficient tool ever devised to destroy a student’s interest in learning" - as this one by @DLabaree He zeroes in on the difference between effectiveness and efficiency

Struggling today to shift some student thinking from valuing a number to valuing the learning. We spend so long drilling into their heads that the goal is number. We do a huge disservice to them when we get them to association their self-worth with a number. #UNgrading

Agree. Traditional K-12 ed rewards (in fact depends upon) conformity. Many of the issues since COVID can be traced to kids failing to fall back in line - failing to comply with passive normal.

Thinking this am about how the very way we conduct schooling makes the k-12 learner passive. They show up, no idea of the plan, waiting for us to lead them. How can we hope for their active engagement when we start with them outside? #edchat
