The new junior minister in the Cabinet Office was considerably more junior when she made her debut on the Eye's cover 37 years ago! The baby is Georgia Gould, newly-elected MP for Queen's Park and Maida Vale.

If you support causes that George Galloway claims to champion, that’s even more of a reason to reject him. He’s a toxic egomaniac who exploits societal divisions & sucks up to bloodthirsty dictators for personal promotion. You don’t want him anywhere near causes you care about.

Galloway will be a disaster for Rochdale and for British democracy. Only Labour can stop this happening elsewhere - but this was a self-inflicted defeat the party has to learn from.

How much danger is Speaker in? Will he have to go? 1/ V senior Lab source tells me they don’t think he will, on basis govt (and payroll) won’t go for Speaker nor will Lab - so in end won’t lose support of majority of House 2/ Former Tory cabinet minister says they “doubt…

The Kemi Badenoch stories seem very similar to the mid-late 1990s dismissal case of a prison governor by Michael Howard. In 1997 he was considered a front runner for the tory leadership. He came last after the case blew up post election.

I hope the Lib Dems win Rochdale.

I presume they will have a kind of 'Deputy Foreign Sec' as Ian Gilmour was who represents the office in the commons. In this day and age it is still unacceptable, but that must be the only way they should now proceed.

David Cameron returning to Government reminds me of John Prescott’s line to William Hague in 2006: “It does seem the Tories have been going through leaders so fast they’ve started at the beginning again”

Today’s decision on HS2 is the wrong one. It will help to fuel the views of those who argue that we can no longer think or act for the long-term as a country; that we are heading in the wrong direction. HS2 was about investing for the long-term, bringing the country together,…
