The enemy of good software isn't bad code, poor UX, or too little testing. The enemy is apathy. Apathy undercuts the deliberation needed to arrive at thoughtful solutions, the introspection to empathize with customers, and the discipline to sweat the details.

Brilliant thread all wannabe and early stage founders should read

1/ It's fun (or, more specifically, "therapeutic") to reflect on learnings over the years for businessing. 15+ years in to all this, I'm still winging it on just about every level possible, so take these insights/observations for what they're worth.

It’s 2018, and you still can’t search the App Store filtering out apps with in app purchases. But you can on appapp.io

This is so important. I had the exact same experience in a startup accelerator. All these wealthy smart people telling me that there was no way to succeed without taking capital. They are VERY good at convincing people of that. Easy to analyse now, very hard at the time.

Easy to sell away your ownership and control without realizing what it will mean. The industry seems to normalize and make people feel like it's a given that they can't grow with their company. I'm excited to grow slowly with my company and see where we and I can be in 10 years.

Great article on validation for idea stage founders medium.com/swlh/the-essen…

Get real customers to pay you real money. Not random people in a room voting for you. That creates a false sense of accomplishment and does little except stroke ego. People paying you money = a business. Not investors funding you. Not being voted as best idea. Get customers!

Good thinking. Can you share with us more on what's the right way forward in business?

Obviously on the wrong mailing lists...we keep getting cold callers expecting an actual factory. We're a factory for your dreams though!
