The current levee system built in the 1960's protects parts of Jackson and Rankin County. It is operating as designed during this flood stage and crews from the Flood Control District are driving the levees to monitor the situation.

The Pearl at Jackson is currently sitting at 28.8’ this morning and is expected to continue rising through the next several days to around 30’ through Friday. Given we have two more rain systems this upcoming week, there is a lot of water that is about to come flowing through.

Brighter skies return after a stormy night across central and southwest Mississippi - many areas seeing 1-2" of rain; locally 3-4" and for some, severe storms produced damage. Expect sunshine to push highs toward the middle to upper 60s. #mswx @wlbt @Fox40News

Betty asks for action for her and her neighbors. Many families and senior citizens in her neighborhood live year to year wondering if they’ll have to move the next time it floods. @ASACivilWorks @USACEHQ #USACEVicksburg

“If the flood issues are not resolved soon, we stand to lose several businesses.” Jackson needs a vibrant economy and it would be tragic to lose these businesses to repeated flooding. @ASACivilWorks @USACEHQ #USACEVicksburg

The Pearl River Flood Control Project is important to any future success and growth of the metro area. It will protect our community from physical and economical threats of potentially disastrous flooding. It is also vital in improving the quality of life for our citizens.

Deon has seen different levels of flooding after living in the area for over twenty years. He and his neighbors and everyone in the metro area need a resolution.

Betty shares about the fear she and her neighbors (many of whom are senior citizens) feel every time it floods. @ASACivilWorks @USACEHQ #USACEVicksburg

The metro area has struggled with economic loss and property damages because of flooding. If a flood like ‘79 happened today, the cost would exceed $1 billion.

“What the world sees [in Jackson] is how they perceive the entire state.” A healthy economy and reliable infrastructure are vital for a city to thrive. @ASACivilWorks @USACEHQ

Getting this project underway means giving Mississippians the means of a productive life. @ASACivilWorks @USACEHQ

Neighborhoods in Hinds and Rankin counties cannot withstand the repeated flooding. After the last few years, many are concerned that the next flood will cause them to move.
