Inflation kills governments.

You can argue the rights and wrongs of increasing the SDLT surcharge from 3% to 5%, but to apply this from tomorrow seems particularly mean-spirited and will cost a lot of firms in the property sector a not inconsiderable impact on pipeline business.

Big sighs of relief this morning, no more so than in 11 Downing Street, where this reduction eases the benefit burden next year.

CPI rose by 1.7% in the 12 months to September 2024, down from 2.2% in August 2024. Read the release ➡️ ons.gov.uk/economy/inflat…

This is like a scrap outside a kebab shop. #JoshuaDubois

It’s a good job Liam Gallagher did that AFTER they’d sold all the tickets. That was just… bad.

Headline rate of inflation remains the same, but core inflation rises, which pours cold water on the prospect of a second @bankofengland Base Rate cut tomorrow.

CPI rose by 2.2% in the 12 months to August 2024, unchanged from July 2024. Read the release ➡️ ons.gov.uk/economy/inflat…

These promotional videos “written by a Gen Z Member of the team” need to stop. No cap.

Can you record Sky Sports+? Saints are on the red button, but how do you record the match?

Absolutely abject performance from Saints. Making Warrington look defensively like a Michael Maguire-coached Wigan side.

Tomorrow is a big day for rate reductions in the mortgage market. I think I’ve counted ten so far.

Really regretting not going to see Oasis when they were touring Heathen Chemistry or Dig Out Your Soul.

Shut up and take my money.

I’m apparently now at the age that, after diving to make a save at 5-a-side football tonight, my Apple Watch vibrated furiously and said “it looks like you have taken a hard fall” and invited me to make an emergency call.

I think at this stage the only thing keeping me on Twitter is Fabrizio Romano.

Fascinating split on the MPC - not just 5-4 in the vote but also externals & internals split. I take that as reassuring given the noise in the labour market data, & the conflicting inflationary signals in the UK services sector. Whatever criticism can be levelled at the MPC -…

This is incredibly sad. I was lucky enough to spend a small amount of time with Beccy when a group of us climbed Kilimanjaro in 2015. She was always cheerful, even when times got tough, sharp-witted when everyone else’s minds had melted, and absolutely heroic on the lash. RIP.

I’m sharing the very sad news that Beccy passed away peacefully this morning. She spent her last few days at @SJHospice who provided the most dignified & compassionate care to Beccy & her whole family. Donations to the hospice can be made in Beccy’s memory. ❤️
