Another reason why the Government line that the student loan system 'protects low earners' is becoming more and more difficult to justify. We're close to a point where you could be on the minimum wage and face a marginal tax rate of 37% (43% if you did a masters).
Minimum wage on the way up is set to pass student loan repayment threshold on the way down. £12.12 working 40 hrs/wk is £24k/yr. Plan 5 student loan repayments start at £25k and will apply to graduates leaving uni in 2026. So nearly everyone will pay something upon graduation.
