@nickmicinski and I updated our article on #UNRWA for @ConversationUS after yesterday's Knesset vote to ban the org from operations in Israeli occupied territory. In short, this will have devastating, life-threatening consequences for Palestinians: theconversation.com/israels-ban-on…

Italian court dismisses the Italy/Albania deal in the first week, ordering the forced transfer back to Italy with the 12 asylum seekers concerned. €1 billion euros for a failed deal. Which lesson do you draw now from this deal @vonderleyen? ansa.it/english/news/2…

100% agree w/ @MauriceStierl Germany's new border controls are a threat to the entire EU project and a victory for the far right. Why are liberal parties so eager to implement far right migration policies?!

The introduction of systematic border controls at #Germany’s Schengen borders is a victory for the far right, writes IMIS & #SFB1604 member @MauriceStierl in an @guardian opinion piece. “The German government risks putting the #EU itself in jeopardy”. buff.ly/3zilUJt

What's happening in Gaza is totally unacceptable. A school turned shelter for around 12,000 people was hit by Israeli airstrikes again today. Six of our @UNRWA colleagues are among those killed. These dramatic violations of international humanitarian law need to stop now.

This is a terrible tragedy. But do the states that have cut off funding not understand that this means that Palestinians can now enter their territory and secure refugee rights without the necessity of status determination? That’s the deal: Art 1D of the UN Refugee Convention.

UNRWA forced to suspend its aid operations today as result of Israel’s permanent expulsion orders in Gaza. UNRWA estimates 1mln people will go without any food aid in a situation in which 96% of the Palestinian population already faces acute malnutrition
