It is stunning and depressing to realize that more and more people believe that Google translate somehow yields more accurate results than a well thought out translation by a bilingual person who actually speaks that language. It’s the language version of the machine apocalypse.
Translator twitter wank today: people who are actually bilingual and have experience translating trying to explain to crying weebs that “exact translations” are not something to aim for and it’s weird to want that.
Honestly this is the impression I get from some weebs, they want to use subtitles to learn Japanese so they’re relying on the subs being 1:1 translations. They absolutely shouldn’t be bc that’s not how language works. This grinds my gears so much lol.

Probably the most intelligent thing I’ve ever done in my life is once in college when I was too hungover to come in to my part time job I sent the manager an old pic of when I was in a car accident and told him it just happened.
I have this one adult learners class with 5 women who are super into marvel and western actors and one old man who barely knows how to use a smartphone. Every week he has to sit through Mads Mikkelson appreciation hour and which Spider-Man is hotter. Bless him tbh.
I think it does unless you use both L2s (L2 and L3?) in everyday life. When I first started learning Japanese I kept putting Spanish filler words in. Then when I had to use Spanish for the first time in over 10 yrs I kept putting Japanese filler words in.
I have a question for learners/speakers of multiple languages. Does it get confusing to study more than one at a time? When I tried to remember my high school Spanish on a recent trip to Costa Rice, I kept defaulting to Japanese filler words an apologies every time I got nervous.
