My writing advice to new writers? Every writer should write at least one book aiming to never let anyone read it but themselves. When you listen ONLY to your own voice and write completely w/o the need for validation, you’ll find your true voice and learn to love your writing.

Want to write a gripping scene? Come subscribe to my free workshops on YouTube. My last novel was one of NPR’s Best Books of the year. Watch this: youtu.be/d5cYuMJESdQ?si… #nanowrimo #nanowrimo2023

This summer, I’m offering a free novel-writing class in the summer for teachers. July 1st-August 31st. Two classes a week. Fun, multi-sensory writing experiments that you can use with your students…plus, you’ll finish a draft of a novel. DM or contact - kimpurcell.com.

A lecture/workshop on characterization and the reader-character connection. It’s designed so you can either listen while you do errands or sit and watch it and journal on the questions. bit.ly/3Gn1H4D

Tomorrow I’m teaching a beautiful language fiction workshop to improve the first pages of your manuscript. Email me at Kim (at) kimpurcell.com.

For a #nanowrimo book appreciation moment, want to celebrate the dialogue in this scene in Almost There and Almost Not, by Linda Urban. California Poppy is getting in trouble because she’s in a grocery store without a parent, and a random girl and her mom help.

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving. Here are some tips for bringing your prose to the next level as you finish #nanowrimo2022. You can do it! One week left.

Controversial opinion: Twitter is not going down during #nanowrimo.

I’m heading to a writing retreat at #vcfa right now … if you’re a kidlit author, I recommend going there for your MFA. Fabulous low res MFA. Hoping to get some solid #nanowrimo pages in.

Just grab an object and stick it in the scene when you’re stuck. Use it in some way to show the character’s emotions.

This is tonight at 6-7 pm PST, 9-10 EST. DM me if you’re interested.

Think of each character, what they’re wearing and how it affects the way they move.

This can make a big difference. What habit can you establish to trigger the brain to write?

Ok. Obsessed with @promptogame @fonkydonk I wanted to ask you about it on spaces tonight but we’ll chat when you’re the guest… it’s so addicting.
