Former Mayor of #KingsLynn, Frederick Savage, died #OnThisDay in 1897. Best remembered for his famous steam powered fairground rides he was buried in @Hardwickroad Cemetery where an impressive monument was erected to commemorate him.

Daniel Defoe's 'Robinson Crusoe' was published #OnThisDay in 1719. He visited #KingsLynn 3 years later where he might have met the town's own Cruso family. @StNicksKL, contains their memorials including one to Alice, wife of Robinson Cruso!

Below is a sketch by Henry Baines of the Margaret of Christiana, wrecked at Hunstanton on 23 April 1886 while loaded with ice. Baines sketched the ship from many perspectives in May of that year. This particular drawing formed the basis of his oil painting.

Much older than they look - two houses overlooking the former Cattle Market in #KingsLynn. English bond brickwork beneath the pebbledash & mansard roof. What date I wonder? Could they possibly be late C17?

#OTD, 1623 Thomas Snelling died (39) during his term as Mayor of #KingsLynn. His father (also Thomas) was 2x Mayor of Thetford & his father-in-law, Matthew Clarck was 2x Mayor of Lynn. Thomas’ wall memorial @StNicksKL shows that he & his wife, Margaret, had 3 sons & a daughter.

Dr John Marshall died aged 79 #OnThisDay in 1822. He was married to Martha Matilda Marshall (nee Crawley) and the couple are commemorated in a ledger stone commissioned by their son in @StNicksKL

#OnThisDay in 1277 Edward I gifted 6 oak trees for timber to the Whitefriars of #KingsLynn. This beautiful stone and brick archway is the only part of that friary complex to survive.
