All of our copies of Julian of Norwich's Revelations of Divine Love have been digitised and are now available online! A mystic and anchoress from the 14 century, Julian's account represents one of the earliest known English works by a named woman. blogs.bl.uk/digitisedmanus…

Studing #medieval liturgical manuals, I came across Gisela von Kerssenbrock († 1300), cantrix of the #Cistercian convent of Rulle. She played an important role in the creation of the #nuntastic Golden Graduale (Osnabrück, Ma 101) in which she is depicted twice. #MedievalArt

Shame that I still have to have 2 tests which cost nearly £100 just so I can come back from my second and final concert of the year in Germany next week :'( Germany don't need me to test at all because I am fully vaccinated.

This small (5 cm x 5 cm folded) fold-out #calendar for the wealthier late #medieval Scandinavian peasantry, made in 1513, is a perennial joy. It illustrates each month’s labour & the rosette for each shows the ratio between hours of light & darkness. www5.kb.dk/permalink/2006… 1/2

I really do give a crap, #whogivesacraptp, and was very excited that my tp was going to arrive today.... until Hermes didn't bother to knock on the door and just said we weren't there to accept the parcel. disappointed :(

Amazingly, Team Huddersfield medieval musicologists were ALL at the British Library today! Defo a day for the @LaurieStras mask, as we delved into 13th-c songbooks, instrumental ricercare scores, and 15th-c Missals. @sarahjoliver74 @LeahStuttard Just so much joy.

I wanted to thank @hudlib for being brilliant this term, sending me several books to my house and scanning and sending an article in double quick time <3 I love studying at @HuddersfieldUni @MHMpostgrad

I am doing three other things @Benslow_Music starting this weekend, and you can read about them here us18.campaign-archive.com/?u=6282148856a… (the things are singing medieval music for Advent workshops)

This was a thing I did to provide some musical reflection for Advent (recorded before lockdown 2), with the help of Luisa Nardini who provided the special edition of the chant from a southern Italian source including some special lyrics (a prosula for those in the know).

We find peace in different ways and places - sometimes listening to plainsong is what you need. Which is lucky, because we've a beautiful piece from Leah Stuttard (leahstuttard.com) during the second week of Advent.

who knew it could be so nice to present to an entirely virtual audience in an empty concert hall?

My view from the control room of tonight’s #livestreamed performance by @LeahStuttard Mesmerising medieval music.

#MedRen2020 my first time at this behemoth of a conference from the safe space of my home. Lots of really inspiring stuff. Particularly a paper on decolonizing medievalism by Dr Gillian Gower @medievaliste just so powerful and sensitive with great musicology, thanks!

I too enjoyed the (disquieting) link of sound theories of war and chansons de croisade - had never imagined them in that way! Also was really excited to discover a trouvère who lived in the French town where I've been living, so thanks to Joseph for that!

Embarrassment of riches at #MedRen2020. I am only slowly catching up. So many spectacular papers, but one I find particularly inspiring for its combination of literary/musical analysis & theorization of sound is @josephmason91's "Sound, Song and Violence in 13th-C Crusades."✍️⚔️

so apparently @RILMMusicLit are offering free access to institutions until the end of May to rme.rilm.org and mgg-online.com - @hudlib any chance you can email them at subscriptions@rilm.org to get it for us?

I've been busy....

Not sure what to expect from our Feast of Fools on 10 Nov? The full series of blog posts from MD @LeahStuttard are now live at bremf.org.uk/blog/ Convinced? Book tickets at bremf.org.uk/2019/eventpage… @Viva_Brighton #research #history #medieval #feastoffools #brighton
