So a short thread about what librarians actually do and how books are cataloged. 🧵

@JuddLegum breaks down the recent decision by the “Citizens Review Committee” of Montgomery County to reclassify a nonfiction library book- about American history from an Indigenous perspective - to fiction. Perhaps fitting that today is Ingenious Peoples’ Day. See🧵….

We are SO EXCITED about this generous gift from Austin Assistance League! For years they have supported our efforts to get books in students’ hands and this van will make it even better!

📚✨ Bringing Books to Students! ✨📚 Thanks to a generous donation from @ALAThriftHouse , the new mobile library will bring exciting summer reading options to students in Title I schools and areas of East Austin where access to books is limited.

We aren’t partisan, we are pro library. And we know without a doubt that librarians believe in age relevant and age appropriate books for toddlers.

JD Vance: "Hillary Clinton called us deplorables, and now Kamala Harris says we're weird. Well Kamala, let's talk about some things that are weird. We think it's weird that Democrats want to put sexually explicit books in toddlers' libraries."

If a history teacher said, "I don't like the Civil War, so I'm just going to remove it from the curriculum," people would be like, "You can't just decide not to do parts of your job." Same goes for librarianship - we need to rep ALL the students, not just those we agree with.
