So sad that this happened. There's no excuse for the dismantling of libraries. It's the first step toward dismantling democracy.
165+ HISD libraries aren’t "still there". The books aren’t circulating; in many cases they’re gone. No class visits; no staff to provide literacy support & teach research/critical thinking skills; no events, STEM education, study groups. TX: Libraries help our students succeed.

In a rare show of solidarity, Harris County’s Democratic and Republican parties are standing together in opposition of Houston ISD’s $4.4 billion bond proposal. Local workers’ unions, the NAACP and elected officials and candidates from both parties also are here.
In my comments to the #HISD Board of Managers, I called for greater transparency & accountability regarding the historic $4.4B bond proposal. “You can’t dismiss Principals of the Year, remove libraries, & silence the voices of parents & teachers, & still expect to build trust.”
