I had a mate in Liverpool called Peter Grant and he rang me at the office in my first week at Select mag in 1990. When Hannah the ed. asst. shouted “Andrew, I’ve got Peter Grant on the phone for you,” I saw all the older rock journos instantly go pale with fear.

21 November 1995. Peter Grant died (aged 60). He was the manager of the rock band Led Zeppelin. He has been described as “one of the shrewdest and most ruthless managers in rock history”.

I really loved the man. He was really crucial to the beginning of our career. I send all my love and condolences to his family. He was a really sweet gentle soul. Rest in Peace Shel Talmy

RIP Shel Talmy. Brilliant record producer for The Who, The Kinks, Pentangle, Easybeats, The Damned and the young Bowie and Lemmy. With You Really Got Me, he templated the way most British rock sounded for a decade. Plus Waterloo Sunset, My Generation, Friday On My Mind etc. Wow.
