Watched enough TV commercials lately to really feel the dystopian quality of modern day society in my bones, like a physical companion. The singing pharmaceutical praisers, the living shampoo manikins, it would really be too much except for the saving grace of its absurdism.

No, I'll please NOT wait 3 business days for my email un-subscription to take effect, I will let it take effect right away, please, because this is DIGITAL EMAIL MESSAGING, and I will be ramming you into my my spam filter otherwise, thanks mucho.

At first, I was shocked and outraged by the Google Docs update decision to put an @ symbol next to the blinking cursor, on a new line, but on further reflection, a few days later, I just find the levels of hubris of the manager to be hilarious.

Currently tentatively rescuing a really unproductive day today, and actually finding that to be pretty rewarding. Or maybe, that's just the espresso.

This weekend, I had the strangest random internet discovery I'd had in a while, learning that plastic surgeons now perform 'large skull augmentations,' where they implant full-scale helmets underneath the scalp, enlarging the head by up to 350 cc's. skullreshaping.com/large-skull-pr…

Could we get a statement from OpenAI on AutoGPT and these things? Seems a pretty alarming jump to suddenly have powerful, GPT-4 driven agents free roaming the net.

What draws the woodpecker's beak into the wood? Is it conditioning, or is it something more — a love for wood?

It is so wildly fun to write longform nonfiction, trying to combine aesthetics, biography, science, synthesis, commentary, opinion, and insight into one. It is often so exciting that I have to step away from the keyboard to calm down. It is also often terrifying, but that's ok.

DROWNING IN TABS ... WINDOWS AND TABS

Yes, I am very anti-war. Yes, I was obsessed with planes, tanks, and weapons as a child, and I do intend to start reading a lot of cheap nuclear submarine action fiction.

That Canada Soccer would threaten to sue the players on the women's team over contractual details, in response to them rightly trying to stick up for their fair treatment rights, is a perfect example of the utter shamelessness of corporate culture. theguardian.com/football/2023/…

I often enjoy @willknight's work, but not this article. Shockingly uncritical about the patently obvious issues that would come with giving an already grossly amoral, horrifically vampiric military industrial complex a major upgrade with AI. wired.com/story/eric-sch…
