In Seattle at #SICB2024, talking about our @NGRREC and @McKendreeU research on how bluegill choose to forage on and over time avoid microplastics, and also snuck out for a bit after sessions were done to see the space needle, because you have to.

36C is at or above the long-term upper thermal limits for many marine species. We might see coral bleaching and mass death of fish and invertebrates in the coming days 😬. This is not good.

Florida water temps as hot as 95 - 97° between the Everglades and the Keys this week, according to multiple sensors roughly 5 feet deep. Horrible for the coral reefs in the area. @WINKNews

As you can see, it’s field season.

Catfish extravaganza 2023 with @NGRREC REU interns is underway with accelerometers, hot temps, and so far smallish fish. Hoping for some big blues before the summer is over!

Last time I was in Cali I saw a ton of signs asking for more irrigation, rather than wasting the water by letting it flow to the ocean unused. Great rebuttal to that ridiculous point here.

Great insight on why water is never “wasted” to the ocean. There are many ways in which we as society waste water, but letting it reach the ocean is not one of them. californiawaterblog.com/2023/06/04/wat… via @UCDavisWater

Swap out "action figures" with "stuffies and hatchimals" and you basically have every play scenario with my daughter.

Research job in a great lab! I should know, I was in it. illinois.csod.com/ux/ats/careers…

At the Magic House in STL with my daughter and came across this little puzzle. Cruel how they set up this display with a question that can't be answered in the affirmative, since there is no dinosaur on it.

Made this 405 go down and up on the squat today, and now challenge all other scientific academics to an open powerlifting challenge! Best idea I’ve ever had (until I get hit with the inevitable hernia)!
