Thank you @BarbaraGruener hope this book helps us recognize that #resilience is teachable & we can start by helping our kids learn to use these 6 superpower skills whenever there’s a challenge!

This post is unavailable.

I can’t wait to speak with you. I love #LearningandtheB Please come say hello!

How can we teach children #resilience and optimism? How can we help them thrive? In this video, @micheleborba introduces her book on this very subject: ow.ly/5LAy50SRf1q Good news: you can meet Dr. Borba at our November conference in Boston: ow.ly/zi7J50SRf1p

Our everyday parent-kid inquiries become predictable:”What was your score/grade?” Queries about #kindness & #empathy—“What kind thing did you do today?”-are scarce. Beware: kids pick up our priorities. If you want a kind kid-please do-stress & expect #kindness!

Heavy screen use might create a vicious cycle for young kids. New data: the more time 3.5-year-olds spent on tablets, the more angry outbursts they had at age 4.5... and the more they used tablets at 5.5. Digital soothing is not a substitute for teaching emotion regulation.

Summer days are waning and a new school year is upon us. 📚✏️🧠 Help your kids prepare with these simple tips from psychologists: at.apa.org/yf9 What strategies have worked best for your family? #backtoschool

Excited to announce my 1st picture #book: I GOT THIS! It teaches 5-11yo 6 superpowers to help kids bounce back from challenges. #Resilience is learned! Let’s boost our kids’ agency & confidence when they’re younger & help them realize they can handle the bumps of life @NCYI

Step 1 to building cultures of #kindness is to expect it. Creating class/school/home kindness oath jumpstarts process.👍on these kindness oaths. Step 2: model/practice kind behavior so kids see/hear/do til it becomes their identity. Make caring intentional

Keep those #gratitude chains going-class to class; school to school; town to town; state to state! Best way to turn Me to We! #beartavernpride

Somebody call The Guinness Book- 2nd grade worked with 4th grade to make a chain of #Gratitude - each link has something someone is grateful for @BearTavernES @HVRSD #beartavernpride

PsychScience study found that writing simple thank-yous boosts #gratitude & #resilience-esp if kids consider recipient’s response to their thoughtfulness.Prompt kids to think more of giver not just gift.”Pretend Gammy is reading ur TY. How will she feel?”

#Empathy is the immensely human trait that helps us step into another’s shoes and reflect how he/she might feel or need. #Empathy can be cultivated. Let’s help our kids learn to think WE, not ME. It’s how we can create a more humane 🌎 for our children.

It takes 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain. Through play, it only takes 10 - 20 repetitions. Our brains are wired for play: Fosters imagination, creativity & collaboration. Brings joys & wonders. Encourages risk taking. Illustration by @elliottaleksndr 🧵 👇

Valuable info on ways to build positive relationships with students struggling with mental health - As with any accommodation, educators need to document, explicitly, what the student needs in order to access the curriculum successfully.  kappanonline.org/building-posit…

Such important and crucial work --- racial equity teacher training across the US.👏to @KatherineLewis and to @USAToday for publishing.

Thrilled to share my project assessing equity-oriented teacher training in US schools in @USATODAY, reported w @rachelryan_06 @MOjiambo! “The disease in education is the predictability of student achievement by race,” Lacey Robinson @unboundedu usatoday.com/story/news/edu…

Loved chatting w @LianneCastelino on how to raise #thrivers. FYI: Resillience is teachable-but needs a safe environment, a caring champion & opps to practice the skill til child can use alone! #Agency!!

LOVE @RootsofEmpathy & write about it in #UnSelfie. One of most profound ways to teach #empathy I’ve seen-it uses babies!! 🙌 Lesson: Make lessons active-not worksheets. Involve kids! 8yo told me “It works bec empathy is a verb” 😊 Think about it-he’s right.

More than 1/2 parents (60%) are seeking ways to escape tech & reconnect with their kids👏But 6/10 #parents now spend MORE time on their electronic devices than their kids. Connection=crucial for #mentalhealth Let's put down phones & talk! studyfinds.org/parents-screen…

Thank you! And all the best in raising #Thrivers!

I'm excited to introduce our Community Book Club based on Thrivers by @micheleborba! More information to come at PRS Back to School Night, 9/14, and MPS Back to School Night, 9/28. We hope you consider participating! @LS_Schools @LSSuper_Platt @antoniojpepe @Katiestig923
