I'm diving into my YA contemporary adventure WIP. My key words are: friendship, treasure, secrets, caves, unexpected romance, finding oneself and complicated relationships.

This is your daily reminder from the universe that good things take time! Work at your own pace, not anybody else’s. I know that’s easier said than done in our hustle/ deadline-driven culture but trust me: everything will bloom in its time!

Authors, stop worrying about trends. By the time you chase one, it’s over. Write the story that keeps you up at night. #WritingCommunity

Happy book birthday friend! I've read an early copy of this book and EVERYONE should read it. It's amazing!

SUCH LOVELY SKIN IS OUT TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so grateful, so excited for people to read, and so PROUD! This book challenged the hell out me but mostly I had fun writing it — I hope you have fun reading ❤️

It’s a common culprit of readers DNFing your book, & something you probably THINK you’ve successfully avoided: Info dumping. But this momentum-killing mistake has a way of sneaking into your work w/out you even realizing it. Here are 4 to check for in your ms: 🧵

Monthly reminder: Many people have a book in them, but it takes a special kind of freak to leave the Land of Laziness, cross the Plains of Procrastination and Insecurity Mountain, find the Blade of No One Made You Do This, and use it to cut your chest open and yank that book out.

Revising can be overwhelming & even downright painful. No one wants to rewrite or cut those precious words you spent so much energy putting down on the page. But if you want your story to reach its full potential, it’s crucial to shift your mindset around revision. 🧵

Because agents read a bajillion queries every year, it's important to stand out in the slush pile. That is, of course, easy to say, but what does "standing out" look like in the eyes of an agent? Let's break it down: Tip #1 - Your grammar and spelling should be flawless. You're…

One of the most pervasive pieces of writing advice is also often misunderstood: “show, don’t tell.” This advice has been so drilled into our heads that we avoid “telling” like the plague. Here’s what “show, don’t tell” ACTUALLY means & how to apply it to your writing. 🧵

Love this! If anyone has book recs for any of these, I'd like to hear about them.

reverse tropes are just so fun?? i want more lovers to enemies, cheerful mentor and grumpy apprentice, the chosen one is chosen for evil, brand new haunted house, unarranging the marriage, fake dating and not falling in love, riches to rags, "i can't fix him im making him worse"

External feedback is crucial if you want your story to reach its full potential. But you don’t need to agree w/ every piece of feedback you get—& some might frankly be bad advice. Here’s a quick guide for determining when to implement feedback & when to set it aside (🧵):

If you're looking for an awesome new YA mystery/thriller to read, check out Girls Who Burn by MK Pagano. I'm loving it!

Bought it & just starting reading! I'm about 25% in so far & it's so good! It's a compulsory read that I'm struggling to put down to do the chores I'm supposed to do today! You did such a good job of setting up interesting characters, back stories and a unique setting! Love it!

Same on these 3!

#WritingCommunity members, are you a rule follower or a rule breaker? I'm a bit of both. Tomorrow I'll share three writing rules that I generally follow...but for now here are three that I definitely break. 🩷🩷🩷

For anyone that needs to hear this today: Publishing is filled with a million paths and it's okay if your path to publication is a little longer. You're amazing, keep going, keep learning, keep writing or illustrating. I always say publishing is hard, but not impossible 💛

Great list!

You know how you've heard a million things you "shouldn't do" in query letters? Well I compiled them into one place and ripped off Kate Hudson and Matthew Mcconaughey while doing it. 👇 HOW TO LOSE AN AGENT IN 10 WAYS aubreyyazzie.com/index.php/2024…

Reading widely and being open to critique will teach you how to write Query Shark will teach you how to query "Before and After the Book Deal" by Courtney Maum will give you a crash course in the industry; & your friendship network will keep you sane. All are free/low cost.

Now that I'm reopened to queries, I've noticed lots of folks cramming their letters with 4, 5, 6, even 7 comp titles. I'd recommend sticking to just 2 (maybe 3)! Too many becomes overwhelming and takes up space in your letter that could be better used. #querytip
