Wanted to share a story with a good ending. This is a young mother of three who was unvaccinated and developed significant ARDS from COVID-19 pneumonia. She went home after nine grueling days in the ICU. She came back with the best ever gift an ICU team could ask!

My pulmonary/ICU friends (who have been treating #COVID19 patients since last year) are really upset about the guidance, calling it premature. They would have preferred @CDCgov to have waited for a higher vaccination threshold, rather than using “unmasking” as a #vaccine carrot.
As our colleague Dr Hashim states “relaxation of #mask mandates should happen AFTER adequate vaccination not as a carrot to spur people to vaccinate”. The blowing of the universal unmasking horn is premature. #unvaccinated at huge risk. Walk this back please
This may be stating the obvious, but the two most important words in the @CDCgov directive are “fully vaccinated”. For a glimpse into what happens when society becomes lax with mask usage PRIOR to widespread vaccination, look no further than India. Please get vaccinated. 🙏🏽
