I've reported critically on progressive group dynamics, but I'm seeing the post-election discourse trend in a bad direction and I want to offer a corrective here People are starting to blame advocacy orgs for what clearly remains the responsibility/onus of the elected official

Israel began violating Blinken’s “Tokyo Principles” almost the moment they were enunciated a year ago. Not only has the Biden admin not meaningfully pushed back, they’ve denied it’s happening. A campaign of deception and disinformation rivaling the Iraq war.

🧵The U.S. State Department today denied that forced displacement is occurring in Gaza, contradicting a new Human Rights Watch report, which asserts that Israeli authorities have engaged in “massive, deliberate forced displacement of Palestinian civilians in Gaza since October…

The Biden administration should sanction Israeli ministers Smotrich & Ben-Gvir for their destabilizing activities in the West Bank, in line with a February 1 executive order. Even if short lived, it's an important green light to other countries. 🔗thehill.com/policy/interna…

Bidenomics fell flat electorally. It was progressive — it was ahead of Europe, for example, in terms of its upstream industrial policy initiatives — but it just did not do enough for the stuff that people feel immediately. My new longform Interview with @sunraysunray

In Berlin earlier this week, was asked by German colleagues if picking Rubio for SecState is evidence that Trump might secretly be a neocon, I said no it's just evidence that Rubio has been housebroken.

Harris didn't run primarily on economic populist issues - or what her administration had done. She ran on saving democracy and repro rights, which failed to move enough swing voters. We need to focus squarely on the interests and concerns of w-c voters: dissentmagazine.org/online_article…

I hope Mike Huckabee is given the opportunity to explain what he believes happens to the Jews after Jesus comes back. Because it's not good!

Argument is, in effect, the election was impossible to win under these circumstances. Don’t think that’s ever true in a free election. Plus, Macron was able to win re-election as an incumbent.

Not impressed with this. Yes, Biden had some great pro-worker initiatives, as did Harris. But simply waving in the direction of the last four years will not do. It took years of policy effort for Democrats to alienate working class voters. It will take years to win them back.

There’s also a difference between policy and ability to frame an effective populist message (putting forward a clear narrative, identifying villains to mobilize people against, etc.).

Today I joined @majorityfm with @EmmaVigeland to talk about Trump’s new cabinet picks—and why they’re one of the most hardline, pro-war foreign policy teams in modern US history. What does this mean for the Middle East, and how could it impact us all? Check it out:

I think supporting Ukraine’s defense has been the right policy, but this wildly overstates the case. It also ignores how the US and European allies have been shredding the “the international legal order” in Gaza.

If Trump sells out Ukraine, the present world order collapses around him. bostonglobe.com/2024/11/12/opi…

US law is clear: No nation blocking US humanitarian aid can receive US weapons. Palestinian children are forced to eat pet food and bug infested flour, but @SecBlinken says there’s no need to change our policy. The Biden administration is refusing to comply with US law.
