2023 was a big year, so I hope ya’ll will excuse a bit of self-indulgence. I started the year by getting my first permanent [ish] job @EdinburghUni, finished my first trade book for @picadorbooks, published my second academic book with @ManchesterUP, and had the best baby ever.

King Charles iii has personal assets of £1.8bn. The Crown Estate owns property worth £15.6bn. Charles paid no inheritance tax & pays income tax only if he volunteers to. The Royal family get £86.3ml pa from us. And we are paying £100ml to put a crown on his head. Madness.
